I don't know how we solve for the people that get a dopamine hit from a sales transaction. My MIL is a great example of this, she goes shopping just to go shopping and get a deal. She buys more than she could ever want or use. Christma

You don't have a life and it's difficult for ~4 years. You live/breath/eat work and school. If you have a family, good luck. I did it in my 20s and would not do it now as my body has aged.

IMHO, it's better than a deluge of political posts. I don't mind reading about politics but I come to HN to read about tech. We can go elsewhere to get whatever politics we desire.

Well, in the USA we are literally called Human Capital Stock. So, I would disagree that's the case here.

Money/Greed attracts a certain type of person who has different values, priorities, and interests. I think it mostly comes down to that.

I'm of the same mind on this. It would be ridiculously easy to identify who I am with some tangential info on me. I'm here to talk about tech and related stuff. It's ok that people don't know who I am. I don't need

We got a 3% COL increase. I went permanent WFH and that has been a gigantic reduction in expenses so we're doing pretty good now. I haven't noticed inflationary effects in the stuff we buy. Food seems a bit more expensive but ever

They are now (maybe not Trump, but the rest of the republicans). I don't know if they switched because they're concerned their voters are going to die or if they're worried about getting sued but there's been a sudden sw

Our org has an accessibility consultant that we hire periodically to help us with aspects of our site and beyond (into other topics/things in the org). There's definitely a market and a need for this type of work. So, I hope it wo

I've been burnt out bad before and a week isn't enough. IMHO, with burnout, a week off feels like taking just one breath. What a week does though is let the workers reconsider their situation. Is the burnout worth it? Companies ul

There was a period in time of my life where I would say I was addicted to games. Looking back, it was 100% a response to trauma. Once I was in a better spot in my life, my gaming scaled way back to something more reasonable. Sometimes now,

I don't know if there's a special tax in place in Chicago, but AirBnbs have been almost double the price of hotels recently. Uber/Lyft have been super expensive as well. I wonder if we're seeing that these company's

It was a combo of being a fresh/new dev on my part and IE6/7, but I recall spending (wasting) days and days of my life working around IE issues. I know we don't want another situation of one browser dominating the web but Chr

I recently upgraded to a Pixel 4a from an iPhone SE and it's convinced me that, in fact, Google is really good with software when they have the opportunity to program directed against a set SKU. Performance is really good on the device

I promise that this isn't a snarky question. Why has it taken so long for corp America to move off of IE? There are so many other better alternatives. I still sometimes have flashbacks of having to design around and support IE6. /

I was making $12/hour as a bus boy at a restaurant in the 90s. $15/hour is pathetic. Target is _starting_ at $15/hour in the rural midwest, near me. Yes, maybe their restaurant (and other biz) margins are small but they'

I used to work for a PR firm in Chicago that would work with AT&T to do astroturfing. I never knew the details but the gossip about the contract with AT&T was interesting. Internally, they would never say the word, "AT&T&qu
