This, please. Why on earth EVERYONE is expected to be "on the ready" all the time? I understand it may be the case for some people but...not being on the ready means you're on your leisure time? Somewhere along the road we fa

Hi everyone, author here. Growing tired of having to customise cookiecutter-django for any project I work in, I made this cookiecutter that separates a front-end built with React with a Django-based backend. It's in very early stages b

Maybe the problem isn't necessarily latitude, but light intensity. Any info on that? It's great that countries here and there are considering alternate options.

Nice take. It feels like the underlying question is "what should humans make a priority?". But we lack hindsight: it's a multi-armed bandit problem[0]. So the strategy should be in this case: let's try, and move towards

This! The carpe diem mentality has always had this flaw IMHO. Humans are what they are because they invented ways to deal with the future: being a good sport, a sense of community, trading, etc. Just living in the moment isn't enough.

I'm afraid that no innovation would come after that: there would be simply no incentive to improve the Internet as it would be, because eventually it would be "nationalised" so to say, and profit will max out for Internet com

Why, oh, why, this clickbaity and non informative articles end up in HN? Is it because we are so eager to find a solution to this problem, that we settle for anything? 1. Try GitHub... 2. Try Stack Overflow... 3. Try...hackathons? 4. Try..w

I can twist that, and indeed I do, by quoting somebody telling a lie. I'm positive infotainments do it all the time: such and such people said that the Earth is flat because so and so. People are so gullible, and some would argue that

I hated C++ and Matlab as an undergraduate. Hell, I hated programming as a whole - and effectively swear never to write a line of code once I was done with my BSc in Physics. Then, at work, I was introduced to Python. It was so...obvious, f

Ha, didn't think of that when I wrote it, that's a good point. I looked at it from a Talebian perspective, so to say, and forgot about that approach. In any case, I stand with what I meant: that complex systems should be treated w

"Life finds a way", Jurassic Park jokes aside, was the moral of the whole saga: Thou shall not mess with systems you do not understand. Taleb talks about caution all the time for a reason, complex systems are, indeed, complex.

One possible explanation for why non-technical people "can't" build software is simply that they don't want to learn how to do it. But that isn't the problem that Corda is trying to solve, I gather. The client avata
