To people who say Scala has too many features, which ones would you remove? (Please don't say + to concatenate strings, because everyone knows its terrible, its there for Java compatibility)

for old legacy systems, keeping /etc/ in RC is (and has been) a massive godsend. Its nice to see a rarely used bit of software from 31 years ago still being maintained.

ref counting has a couple of pros and cons: cons - can't handle circular references - sudden churning when something at the root of a large tree can be freed, causing recursive freeing. - it really doesn't like multithreading pro

I'm guessing you mean "can't use GPL'd code" here. embedded work is different, in that you often embed your container in your data-structure, so you end up with something like: typedef struct { int x; in

why? languages like ruby etc dont even have universally defined behaviour - there is no spec etc, just a reference implementation.

Simple solution: remove the undefined behaviour from your codebase.

Am I the only one who is getting annoyed at these zero effort sky is falling NSA comments? Every single damn submission on the front page has some meaningless hand wringing over the exact same issue and it is 100% unproductive.

If you have repeated crashes, please report them to JetBrains. I had a problem with intelliJ crashing on some Scala code, sent them the logs and they said they were aware of the problem and that a fix was almost ready for deployment. I'

Yet there are no decent XML libraries for node.js. I'd trade decent JSON support for decent XML support every single day of the week. And Scala/Java/JVM have already solved the problems you mention above.
