Oh, there's certainly junk that should alert someone to its comedic nature, but there's also content isn't entirely fabricated.

An interesting observation about this is that there's just enough "truth" in the essay to make it a somewhat believable source: like John was titled/surnamed Lackland, the Magna Carta was signed at Runnymede - assuming the Wikipedia article

Interesting. I've definitely looked for & removed boxing/unboxing. I haven't touched MaxInlineSize tho. What performance improvements/degradations have you seen in altering MaxInlineSize?

I'd say, odd are, that if you're just interested in throughput, the standard Hotspot GC without any options isn't going to give you optimal performance. I've found that, like gtani, mentions you'll have to spend time tuning to get the perfo

Why was this downvoted? This seems to be a relevant addition to the discussion of Oberon & its history.

What are you pattern-matching on? At least in OCaml you can do "if (test) then a else b", and I assume that holds for F#. Are you talking about "if (test) then a" without the "else b" clause? Because, while I agree that using only "if-then"

The discussion of this over on Ars Technica centered around their current PHP interpreter being twice as slow as the Zend PHP engine so a 60% improvement would still leave HHVM slower. What am I missing?

I disagree with your assessment of CEOs and politicians. For me, at least, it's because I've seen them lie so many times over so long that I no longer really trust what they say. I expected & would like to expect they tell the truth. In

Does Knuth's version handle those words? Since that would discredit the article's claim that McIlroy's version was bug-free.

I actually can't stand Groupon's unsubscribe video. It feels like they're trying to guilt trip you into remaining subscribed. If I don't like your service, I don't want to be bugged by that when I'm just trying to quit.

I agree. The whole thing sounds like "It should have worked but, for an unspecified reason, didn't." Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if it never really comes out. Company proprietary information and all that.

Does it use more JSON data types than arrays? The only examples are ["map", ....] I don't see any `{ }`, etc.

That's kind of ridiculous to say that since Woz bought a Galaxy Nexus he's turning his back on Apple. It seems to me that Woz likes technology in all forms.

:-) I know that some mailing lists strongly prefer bottom posting. I usually try to adapt to whatever culture I'm entering; I don't care that strongly.

I can always do that, but the problem is that Outlook doesn't put markers on what's quoted text & what's not. Like --- Original Message --- Some text from you. And some text from me. Versus --- Original Message ---

I imagine knowing that you could leave would be very helpful. It's empowering to have that control in a situation & then to choose to stay - versus being unable to leave. I think it would be easier to fall into screwy thinking & hat

This sounds too flattering toward Riak; it almost sounds like an ad rather than an external congratulation. But what are the downsides & disadvantages of Riak when compared with other contenders? Why do you like it so much more?
