Teachers appear to earn an average of $79k in California[0], and are eligible for a pension[1] that probably boosts their earnings to the equivalent of a six-figure job. Also, they get summers and holidays off. Not silicon valley engineer

I love that I live in a city with a robust library system. I can borrow books online, and check out books from distant branches by having them moved to my local one. The last time I actually went into my local branch to do some focused rea

I think a lot of it comes down to: if it has happened once, it is likely to happen again. If it was indeed a leak from WIV, which ended up killing millions, then what can we do to prevent that kind of thing from happening again in the futur

It’s more GTD than kanban, but I’ve been getting a lot of mileage out of this stack: - radicale as a caldav server with calendars per context, like @Writing, @Chores ( https://radicale.org/v3.html ) - todoman for cli tasks (

I just got Colima running on my 2020 x86 MacBook the other day. I ended up having to specify an extra `--cpu-arch` flag to get it running, but it definitely seems quicker and lighter than docker desktop. E.g. my machine used to choke when z

I use and love NixOS; however, until there’s better support for things like secure boot I’m not sure it’s a great recommendation outside of hobby use.

One of the hurdles with this approach is that _everything_ has to live in configuration.nix. How are you handling secrets like your host keys? I recently got sops-nix working as a prototype, but curious if there are better ways. Side note:

Agree, once you realize how to traverse search.nixos.org and module definitions in nixpkgs it gets a lot easier.

This does sound nice, but the article barely mentions a pretty major limitation from the release announcement[0]: > it doesn’t support writes in this first release, and in the future will only support sequential writes to new objects. [0

On my OS you can use CTRL+PgUp/PgDown to cycle through tabs, which makes the dedicated keys by the arrows really useful for single-handed tab cycling. Most other ways require a chord with both hands, so it’s just a lot slower.

This is great advice, but one more thing to remember is that $100,000 today is not the same as $100,000 in 30 years. It’ll be closer to half that if inflation reverts to the mean. Most calculators will factor inflation in (such as the one l

Every month I put enough to buy groceries into Series I bonds, with the thought that no matter what they should still be worth that much when they mature. Probably better ways to achieve that, but it is simple.
