I like that. Those four disks cost less than $1 each, and each individual one holds over one million bytes? Amazing. They sound so useful that I bet people built whole collections of them, including devices just for organizing and protectin

The problem isn't the clients. The HTTP server needs to provide optional support for range requests on that resource. (RFC 7233) Not all do.

And Java. As I understand it, Go and Java are both trying to avoid FFI and calling out to system libs for name resolution. I tend to always offer a local caching resolver available over a socket.

I agree, but isn't filing in what you already know a common technique when presenting things for human consumption? I'm thinking scanning microscopy, SEM, STM, etc. The image implies that all the data is from the same instant, whe

Perhaps to provide a moment of levity before the lawyer makes a rushed and boring trip to Macy's and requests a continuance? An author who sends a lawyer into a courtroom in a bathing suit better have a really good reason.

The problem, having worked in banking, is that the core system is separate from the loans system, almost certainly. More complexity. Probably some semi-automated batch handling which is far more brittle and janky than anyone suspects. But r

Since you used a check, chances are pretty high your could issue a stop-payment order to your bank and the check would be refused. (Assuming you realized in time.) It would be similar if you paid with ACH, IIRC. Participation in the ACH net

Isn't the whole point of the UCC to remove all sorts of litigious details in contract situations like making payments? eg, If I agree to pay my babysitter $50 and write an American-style check (aka bank draft), me and the babysitter do

It's not just small pesky shops that screw the consumer. You step out of the EU/NA and consumer protections quickly disappear. Reliance is one of India's largest companies, they have a consumer electronics brand like Best Buy

I would call it wire rope, or a support line. If I worked with it often enough, I'd probably refer to it by size or construction (EHS, 7x7, etc) I'd argue that a Bowden cable (eg a clutch cable) is primarily carrying a signal... r

Interesting to me that everyone is calling this a "cable". It might be the combination of climbing/sailing/rigging/nerd ... but I'd never call that structural element that broke a cable. The only cables I can t

That Molex story is great. Can only imagine how much magic is in some of those molds... trying to think through many molex connectors in terms of relief angles, tolerances, and manufacturability boggles the mind.

Can anyone verify this claim? It sounds too good to be true. According to Wikipedia, FLIT was a product and large consumer-facing brand of Standard Oil, not Shell.

Analog repeaters still use trunking protocols. Edit: Whoops, I didn't realize CPD still had so many assigned frequencies in-use with just a code to activate. That could be done with a Baofeng.

You could look for the repeater uplink, maybe. Keep in mind that these public radio systems are often used by firefighters and other agencies. Finding police specifically would probably involve some sort of metadata leak in the radio signal
