Follow-up question on your comment "my #1 recommendation is to get engineers regularly talking to people who could be your customers". Do you maintain this direct connection between customers and engineers today, and if so, how? H

Thank you for your reply. Makes sense. By the way, thank you for running this AMA and answering all the questions with so much clarity and transparency. What an example!

While I am happy for your company and for your first 10 employees (congrats, really), I am not sure that looking at their return teaches us much. Joining a fresh startup as employee #10 (or less) is somewhat of a gamble (even at YC). The f

As mentioned above by @marketingtech, the websites assume the responsibility of managing user consent and therefore are GDPR compliant. This is why browsing the internet feels like filing for a mortgage now. But it's compliant.

You most likely ran into a bad lead. His/her role was to coach & mentor you to help you become a better engineer, not just to draw diagrams on a white board. "everyone knew how to make software" -> if that was the case

I am with you here. That being said, I believe the author refers to « weaker » libraries (higher-level, more recent etc. )

I evaluate the liveness of a github project based on the responses to questions (latest post, time to reply). Not by when the last change was made.

MacBook folks: we’re in 2021. These laptops turn on and off very quickly. Forget about sleep, hibernation etc. Just shut it down.

There are domains where the use of ML is not only valid but the best viable option (e.g. recommendation systems, computer vision, etc.) A few thoughts on how to maximize your chances of winning in this case: https://medium.com&#x

The aerospace industry has been using CV successfully for decades, well before ML appeared. So I would temper your last statement a bit. That being said, you are right to say that ML changed the game entirely for CV in industry at large.

A bunch of robo taxi startups are going after this market which, while being quite real, is minuscule compared to Waymo’s ambition.

Clients lying should not be a good motivation for a landlord to break the law. I'm not saying this landlord did, but am challenging your reasoning here.

I can relate, as a neighbor frustrated by rogue airbnb guests next door. That being said, as an airbnb customer, I could not imagine a split second renting a place with cameras checking on me. I haven't seen any so far. I may be too

Am surprise by the census data for Lake Tahoe and the 25% drop in salary that goes with it. Isn’t this a super wealthy area? This is going to hurt the Googlers who where going to trade their primary home for their secondary one.

Interestingly, covid seems to have taught me the opposite. When covid hit, the time-to-market of a new vaccine was 10-15 years. The collective action of governments divided this number literally by ten. Despite all the bad words we've

What do you mean by « Spotify is designed to lose money »? Also, a decrease in number of users will definitely worry Spotify and draw negative investors’ attention.

Correct. But I would argue that they probably measure the right thing. It’s probably better for an airline to have .1% of super-angry customers than 3% of frustrated customers. At least that’s the directions that they all have taken.

Fait point. I would also add: blame the AB test culture that has creeped in everywhere. I am pretty confident that the current layout of the Spotify UI is not the result of a design team but the outcome of hundreds of back-to-back AB tests
