I would argue that resources need always explicit handling, no matter whether you do reference counting or GC. So if I do a one-liner to dispose an object or call delete on an object is the same beauty. Wait till the variable is out of scop

It is about the funnel and not the hiring. I assume here that the funnel is anyway full of white men and the hiring decision itself is non discriminatory.

Referral bonus to fix a problem of a funnel ... Does not sound wrong. Sound actually very smart. Hiring freezes except diversity hires ... Sounds wrong.

I would not agree with that. There are many of these shops. But there is different cultures. There are companies which are 90% indians/asian and then there are companies which are 90% white. Which make DEI a bit silly until you look in

Recognizing seniority is hard. Computer Science is a field were a teenager in front of a computer quickly feels like a god. You can do anything! But getting that out of their thinking takes time. And that is IMHO what you experience. It is

Delivery and taxes are the smallest of all problems. When you bring devices into general circulation you have to follow the law for these devices on local grounds. Trading partners can indeed do the necessary qualifications for that, but it

There is huge danger when criminal prosecution is automated. A machine has no sense of proportion or tolerance. That is why we allow police officers, prosecuters and judges to drop cases or just cite people. Not exactly sure how this doctor

I actually start to appreciate function coloring in C# to never forget that I am operating on asynchronous code. In .NET the compiler also throws warnings if you do not await or pickup the task/promise. I also believe that you should s

If Trump would have been smarter, the democratic institutions would have fallen one by one within the two terms which he would had. The supreme court (is still affected by his choices), the Senate, the house (both still more or less 50:50

I actually like the code colouring. It is clear indication that the function is optimized for asynchronoty and that I need to take care how to properly integrate then to achieve the goal. Is the Async suffix stupid: yes. Is a clear indicati

This is an interesting question. Not because of Java (that is answered) but because of the alternatives. Kotlin/Scala/C#/F# are the same stack types, C/C++/Rust are lower level, leaving it realistically (job market)

Babel is a massive project which at a point was key for any web project. And 300k is good for how many full time people. In the US maybe 3? Not that I have any insights, but we should never forget, that we stand on the shoulders of Giants.

There is nothing beautiful of technical debt. I see only pain and problems when I see a technical debt. Not that these need to be fixed/cleaned/paid or do not teach us a lesson, but let us agree on not calling it beautiful.

I think marketing was not involved there. I think some manager made the decision after talking to some CTO of customers. Same for the unfortunate MAUI naming. Both cases could have been prevented by a week of proper field research.
