You elect a executive branch to protect you. Sometimes that includes executive orders. And if these survive the check and balances, maybe it is for the greater good. If you do not want that, the country has to work on a functional Parlament

Well, when you read about German carmakers (BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Porsche, ...) they have very similar challenges than Apple. They also have declining sales. And their behavior and situation is very similar to Apple: - You have in many

In most other places than the US there is no lock-in by iMessage. Everyone uses WhatsApp (or country specific alternatives). Family tracking is available on Google Maps since so long. Apple Watch as a market is not relevant enough. So ignor

When I remember right, Paint.net has this funny origin story: someone wanted to proof that .NET was not suitable for delivering a paint application. He proofed himself otherwise and made a permanent job out of it.

After reading your comment, I really appreciate it. The thinking has a positive world spin (progress for all mankind) instead of the ugly truth of our word. We all should think like that.

Microsoft is a very open platform regards many of the aspects of the DMA. There is app sideloading, alternative app stores, alternative browsers, alternative payment methods, alternative hardware, license-free ports, and there are now more

a precedence in pay-or-consent would uproot a lot of news business. Overdue because this is illegal since GDPR but this is a tough cookie (oh the wordplay) for many organizations.

These DMA like changes are now coming from everywhere. It is just that EU has teeth, not to ignore and usually moves first. California has adopted GDPR, there are ongoing probes in the US just last week, etc. Time is up for regulation-free

Totally agree. Mix it is. Car free is only possible in high density, high public transport coverage inner cities. Grande Paris is definitely not the zone I put my 2/3 statement on.

2/3 is very realistic even for households. It is just prohibitive time wise (it takes more times in most cities to go by car than by train) and parking wise (densities is high, parking is on the street, searching a parking slot up to a

Foreign Function Interface is one of the key advantages what C# had over Java (e.g. against huge APIs like Android or macOS). I am really curious how this JEP turns out.

It is interesting to see how Microsoft and the .NET team are building some very impressive hack-your-own-infrastructure project. Yarp is a reverse proxy/API gateway/whatever you do. Now Garnet for memory caches. Seems they have to

This argumentation is probably being based on generic anti trust law ... and the DMA is a new specialization below it. Does not mean that you violated past law just because new law is also applicable to you.

Are Javadocs still a thing? When I was young and coded Java the last time that was all fancy and normal to do. But today? Also wish C# would switch to Markdown comments instead of this XML nonsense. This JEP looks so clean.

Not unsurprising considering that the Germans are good solid neighbors but the populistic agenda is demanding WWII reparations from Germany and making them the culprit for a lot of European decisions.
