Let’s say I have a margin account and own 100 shares of GME. My broker then lends out those shares of GME to a hedge fund. What would have to happen for me to never get my shares back? I assume if the hedge fund goes bankrupt, it’s cleari

The clearinghouse requiring more margin should definitely be investigated, but it’s not unreasonable. Robinhood offers margin accounts, and may have lent money to all the traders by GME at 300-400 dollars, over 10 times what it was trading

TARP made only about $15 billion on about $400 billion “investment “ from around 2008-2013. An investment in almost any other financial asset would have made much much more money over that timeframe. To drive home the point, compare Warre

On the podcast Invisibilia I heard a fascinating story about a woman who could smell people who would develop Parkinson’s, well before other diagnostic tests. Here’s an article about her: https://www.npr.org/sections/h

This is an idea that I have been kicking around in my head for several years and I’m interested in learning more about it. Do you have any recommendations on writers that expound on what the world would look like without nation states?

Why would the NSA bother with hacking American companies? The American security establishment is only one warrant or national security letter away from getting all the information they need from any of these companies.

Because upper class Pakistanis have a “colonized” mindset and tend to believe that true quality culture must be imported. Additionally, egalitarianism is not a value as it is in the USA, so working class art is generally looked down on.

Just finished this book. At times I found that some of his generalizations were too broad, but overall I thought the book was excellent, especially the insight that credit predates money and is the more “natural” form of exchange.

Reading “The Easy Way to Stop Smoking” by Alan Carr probably added years to my life. “Sirens of Titan” by Kurt Vonnegut resonated with me on an emotional level.
