Surprised to see Wal-E only supports GPG for encryption. When backing up to S3, KMS has a ton of advantages. Though in that vein, maybe the native S3 encryption at at rest with KMS is sufficient?

It's likely impossible to make volumes shared from the host to the container fast for all use cases. It's also likely impossible to make them work as expected on Windows where the host volume is NTFS and the container is Linux. So

I have seen some users file system calls stall due to the EFS quotas. This was on a workload much tougher than WordPress. I haven't run my own NFS for comparison. I recommend reading the NFS v4 spec. AWS has all the pieces to implement

The ELB is $20/mo. A micro RDS is $12/mo. 3 x t2.micro EC2 instance is $15/month. So you're looking at ~ $50/mo. For a setup that can now scale to any volume independently on the HTTP, compute and database tiers. Ov

This guide is spot on for WordPress on AWS. The persistent and shared EFS volume was the missing piece for running WordPress without frustrating patches. And CloudFormation is the AWS best practice. Convox has a few serious WordPress instal

You can integrate CloudWatch Alarms to PagerDuty with an SNS webhook. PagerDuty keeps nagging until the CloudWatch Alarm auto-resolves.

It's not containers, it's AWS. You get CloudWatch events that can turn into alerts for many parts of the platform. With the ECS and ELB/ALB integration, we get paged about downtime and 500s without Nagios.
