Agreed. The timeline for Vesper is debatable but running a custom sync service is a dead end. Only major cloud providers, Apple, Dropbox, Google, Amazon can be relied on to run a utility service on a long timeline. The service needs to be e

Here's some nuance to consider... If configured properly everything in an ECS stack is a service offered by AWS: AMI maintenance is a service provided by the ECS team The ASG service automates cluster side CloudWatch Logs service inges

This is a great writeup and really demonstrates how "the cloud is the computer". As many comments point out there are other ways to do this. But doing it entirely with AWS primitives of Lambda, S3 and automatic triggers is somethi

I'd love to know too. If I had to guess it's something new. They also have the newish API gateway service fronting Lambda. It wouldn't make much sense giving users their own EC2/HAProxy thing for these more dynamic load

Take a look at Convox for setting up AWS then getting out of the way. It's open source and free aside from the base AWS costs. Disclaimer: I work at Convox.

Author here, happy to answer any questions about how ALB could fit into our cloud architectures. Aside from growing pains for any AWS service -- figuring out how to use it and seeing how reliability it is in practice -- this seems like the

Thanks for sharing the info. We're using CloudFormation and ECS heavily for Convox, and just can't get off a CloudFormation custom handler (Lambda func) for managing ECS task definitions and services for small reasons like this.

Agreed that this is a good thing. Strict dogma is bad and unsustainable. The core team has backed off from "the code is the construct" philosophy, both implicitly by executing this fork, and explicitly in other publications. It&#x

Because in software we build platforms that let the new developers stand on the shoulders of giants. With Rails you can learn and build a web app in weeks. With AWS you can learn cloud architecture in months. Spend two years focusing on the
