I don’t understand why a consortium would need a lot of funding if all it is doing is standardizing something that private companies have put together.

I absolutely hate to see consortiums patent and license out standards. I sort of get it if it’s a company patenting it, but a consortium should be separate from the business side of it.

.stack definitely seems like a mistake in the context of Webassembly. I’d be interested in seeing the justification for it.

Incredible how bad the security posture is for companies like this. This should be illegal.

Moving ram over to pcie makes a lot of sense. Glad that’s on the roadmap.

It’s so cool that you’re on HN! I’m a huge fan of your work and it helped me feel comfortable with aiming to be a generalist.

There’s no implicit behavior here. It won’t compile if you don’t explicitly move the string into the closure.

Also, O(n) doesn’t mean much when the CPU can execute hundreds of checks in a few tens of cycles.

Definitely can be useful, but keep in mind that performance will usually be worse for function tables.

Peak exit speed: 33.2 km/s. I can’t help but think maybe the way to do an interstellar probe like this would be project Orion.

Wow, this is fascinating. I wonder if hardware could be designed to do this really efficiently.

In a better world, that would be illegal.

The list of specs definitely sound fake, but maybe they actually did figure out how to statically schedule VLIW instructions well. I guess we’ll see in a year or two.

Vec and allocators aren’t usually used for embedded rust since the std library can be disabled. (Though the _core_ library is still accessible)

I wonder if it would be a good idea for Rust to switch to mold for debug compilation.

From the literature I’ve read, that doesn’t seem right. If we cut all emissions to zero by 2050, total temperature rise would be more like 2C afaik.

It’s nice to submit to call of civilizational collapse every once in a while, but it’s not a realistic view. Yes, climate change is going to affect billions of people, but from what I can tell, things are moving in the right direction and w

This is a small part of why I majored in engineering (Engineering Science/Physics) instead of comp sci. It seemed like a very oppressive environment to learn in, especially when I already had years of experience with programming.

There must be some way to structure contracts to allow for cost of developing new technologies yet incentivizes minimizing that cost.

It’s a chore because the alternative in C is to do things perfectly without the machine doubling checking your work. That assumption does not hold with tools other than C.

Rust absolutely benefits embedded software. A big reason is that the type system allows libraries to let you enforce invariants at compile time. For example, your i2c controller only supports two specific pins and they have to be in a speci
