100%, technology evolves, sometimes to a dead end but it keeps moving and it's an interesting, frustrating and fun ride.

I expect this to rise dramatically in Canada, Canadian tech salaries are a race to the bottom due to companies exploiting students for PR where they can advertise barely livable wages for something in the states that would get $150-250k. If

Can this be renamed "setenv() is not webscale"?

This is the difference between Rust and C like languages, one optimizes for the usual case and has a simple implementation and the other goes to great lengths to be correct in corner cases at the cost of a lot of complexity.

And how do you propose banning it? Should libc track function calls? Maybe when the linker links setenv we just print out the man page for setenv.

I would go with managed bare-metal, it's a step up from unmanaged bare metal cost wise but saves you on headaches from memory, storage, network, etc issues.

eh, to a degree, having to deal with failed hardware and worse buggy hardware is just a pain and really time consuming.

If I'm reading this right socket-to-socket latency hasn't really improved much in a long time, why?

Apple 100% knows Windows and Linux does memory compression, this is just a way of deflecting the actual issue of tiny amounts of ram.

Hmm could this go one level higher? Could cosmopolitan be used to create a super portable bare metal unikernel applications?

Just wondering have you worked on any large DCs or large NAS or SAN systems? Drive failures are a daily occurrence in places with a lot of spinning metal, having things fail to boot by default would be a nightmare.

Yeah this is the probably the worst default for a fs that supports raid.

Ideally you decouple this and store the creds in a key vault or whatever, this way you have to explicitly grant access to the service principal to access the kv secret. Decoupling usually fixes other issues as well such as expiring creds fr

Haven't RTFA but would zeroing registers fix this (-mzero-caller-saved-regs=used)?

This seems kind of wasteful, would it be better to estimate entropy across random blocks in a file and then compress with $algo?

IIRC the average qsort len is less than 20 according to debian code search.

A less painful alternative to dancing around the issue is just to use the filesystem itself as a global database.

For this to be true IPC would have to have stagnated for 10 years which is not the case. Look at Agner's instruction tables for different uarchs and compare.

So, the average wage of a nurse is ~$35/hr, the average price of a house in Canada is ~$680,000. As someone who has family working in hospitals the issue isn't a worker shortage, it's a CoL issue.

Kubernetes without a proper Gitops (not half Gitops half manual) will devolve into a mess, similar with cloud infra without IaC, this needs to be front and center.

Then you realize you need monitoring, then logs, then containers, then internal DNS, then service discovery, then H/A storage, then... I've gone down this road with virtual machines then docker swarm and to an extent early nomad.

~67% of tech graduates at large Canadian universities move to another country. As someone who has done technical hiring in Canada there is a absolute massive influx of immigrant tech workforce, nearly 10:1 on job applications.

So, the big issue everyone seems to be ignoring here is momentum and control, controlling a 20,000lb tractor is going to be hard and incredibly dangerous in bad conditions.

Is there a reason LibreSSL seems less bumpy than a multicorp sponsored OpenSSL? Is it just more development takes place in OpenSSL vs LibreSSL?

So as someone who has "interviewed" the lower class immigrants and TFW, it's truely a depressing situation, a particular one showed me they lived in a converted garage with units similar to a storage locker (6x6ft) while payi

Freq/Power will be linear to a point, it's possible the point differs on different processors but maybe not.
