Debian stable has far less disruption than Ubuntu LTS in my experience. There are very frequent updates to LTS releases. Often big ones too. That being said, Debian stable can sometimes feel a little... stale. Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

Our government has been at the beck and call of the White House ever since they came to power. Key is financier, a snake.

While I don't actually use Ubuntu on a day to day basis, it was my go-to live disc (for when I inevitably break a Gentoo install). I find advertising extremely distasteful, and will no longer use or recommend Ubuntu. Anyone have suggestions

In my experience bricking refers to the rendering of a device inoperable (and irreparable) by the means available to a savvy user. Usually by method of failed firmware flash. Generally you're looking at soldering some wires up to whatever c

The only games that will be on GNU/Linux, at least at first are Valve games and crappy indie flash games. While it's the first step, most developers aren't on board. Yet.

Because Skype also works perfectly fine on an iPad. An additional device is not a replacement for multitasking.

So the solution to sub-par multitasking is to buy a small iPad to use at the same time?

For some reason Ulrich Drepper has an article on the German language Wikipedia, but it's strangely missing on the English language version. Other developers notable for similar reasons do have articles (Theo de Raadt comes to mind). In my a

Off on a slight tangent here, but http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2011/04/tom-tom-g... is interesting. Made me replace my GPS.

Unless I'm mistaken, we had monitor mode working on the G1 (and similar) devices a wee while ago now.

Still big. Not quite as ubiquitous as it once was. I'd say there are far more people in support channels, and less people in purely social channels than was once the case. Edit: Internet Relay Chat chat. Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

ProggyTinySZ or Profont. Initially used them to maximize screen real estate many years ago. Still use them for their superior readability (ProggyTinySZ being the one of the most readable fonts I have ever used).

I had a go at going X-less when KVM started working properly. I came to the conclusion that no matter how many neat workarounds exist for graphics on FB, it's still awkward; not worth the resource savings.

I really can't think of a single good addon UI. Every single one I've used (TouchWiz, Blur, Sense) has been slower, uglier, and less functional than vanilla. The only reason why my old ass GSM Hero is still usable is because it's running a

I should have worded my comment better. I mean that adoption by hardware manufacturers will be slow. What's the incentive? Even for a firmware patch? MP3 is `good enough', and everyone already uses it.

MP3 is getting very long in the tooth, not to mention the fact that it's encumbered by patents. A new codec would be nice, but hardware adoption of the codec will take a while. Long enough, dare I say, to kill it dead in the water.

No we're not. Countries that have (or had) long standing dictatorships are rioting. The closest the first world has had to a riot is when Canada lost that hockey game.

For reference, I don't use/care about 9to5, or Instapaper. But, when a media outlet trash talks your service, are you not entitled to bar them from the benefits (pageviews) they receive from your service?

Agreed. It seems that everyone thinks Anonymous is a contiguous group, as opposed to a bunch of loosely, if at all connected basement dwellers doing things under the same banner.
