Fascinating. It wasn't long ago I did a high performance computer architecture grad class. They covered Tomasulo but no mention of Conway's contributions. TIL.

The guy was a legend - flew fighter jets, was a test pilot, and then an astronaut. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt - I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing.

> What I find most strange about the modern day piracy is quality. For a lot of pirates, it's a niche hobby to preserve the best quality version of some media / art. I see it as an underground librarian archivist movement. In 1

Best thing that works for me is to try and fit a bicycle in my commute to the office. I also try to find fun things that require exercise/stamina. Like DDR. Exercise for exercise sake is something I just can't do. My brain won

Yikes dude, stereotype much? Anime actually got me out of my "hikikomori" phase by encouraging me to study and get a gf. You can laugh but it's true :).

Even within Google, this is not universal. I doubt the majority of SREs at Google have even read the "Google SRE book". On the other hand, the book has some nuggets that make it worth reading. But it should be treated as a collect

Interesting. Does this apply to the people making 5-6 figures on paid interview prep sites?

I’ve had coworkers suggest a technical solution that was straight up fabricated by an LLM and made no sense. More competent people realise this limitation of the models and can use them wisely. Unfortunately I expect to see the former sprea

The vast majority of engineering design happens async - by typically a single engineer, puzzling/experimenting over possible solutions and then creating a design doc. Discussion then happens synchronously. Solving a complex design prob

This made me laugh, given my horrendous bike journey today on roads filled with holes in London. I'm pretty sure most of the damage are from construction company lorries. I wonder why the gov doesn't just tax them for their usage&

I’ve tried this before and the latency was awful. Must be like 200ms+. But I guess casual players won’t really notice.

Indeed. If you have f-you money then sure, why mess around with points programs. But for the rest of us plebs, they can be incredibly rewarding.

Pretty easy with iPhone+AirDrop. Just bring your iPhones together - it asks if you want to airdrop something, select file, done.

It has a lot to do with scale. There are 5 million Teslas. There are 2 billion iPhones. If Tesla had 60%+ of the car market and engaged in anti competitive/trust-like behaviour, it would also be ripe for action.

Indeed - it's modern day corporate feudalism. Anyone arguing for Apple's side is akin to saying we should all be serfs for the King, because he takes care of us well and protects his kingdom.

It's certainly possible to get dates without paying. But the difference between paying and not paying is pretty huge on apps like Bumble and Hinge (for men at least). For me, it was a difference between a few matches a week and multipl

The way these apps work, you pretty much have to pay as a guy. It's like a club where women get in free. The algorithms will derank you very fast unless you're a 10/10 male, and you will basically get no matches from then on.

SPTP does look a lot like NTP over PTP. I’m guessing they deployed this last year when nothing like it existed - the ietf draft (dated Jan 24, 2024) came much later after. They might even be involved with it. Anyways, it’s nice to see progr
