Except you can't really get good quality. Netflix 4k bitrates are atrociously bad. Compression artifacts are super noticeable especially in dark scenes. I think they use around 10mbps for 4k, which is just a joke. Blu-ray is around 50m

Whoever can pull this off will be the next iTunes/Spotify. But I don't think it will happen until piracy starts becoming a major problem and streaming services are pressured to consolidate to compete. Plex shows there is a larger

Is that true? I remember most people, including myself, would get the full DirectTV/Cable subscription, hook up TiVo, and just record/watch on demand whatever you want. Those days seem impossible now. It certainly feels like thing

It's a misunderstanding of the paper I think. The blog post author and SO post both make the mistake of altering the Paxos Made Simple algorithm to allow sending phase 2 messages to any majority set of acceptors. But that doesn't

Python is basically unusable without venvs in my experience. Not sure what your alternative suggestion is. I hope you don't think global pip install is the right way.

The lack of backwards compatibility with extensions is probably my number one issue with Gnome. Every release breaks every extension. I wish they would commit to stable APIs.

Such statistics are misleading and it's a pet peeve when they are pulled out in discussions. You can't predict a child's outcome so simply. Both Obama and Clinton were raised by single parents. Such statistics are only on ave

Your view seems so incredibly judgemental to me. I suppose that's your right, but in my own experience, plenty of people have personal struggles while being very successful at business. I think it is also a view that is uncomfortably s

I'll just say this is a good reason to use a full DE like Gnome or KDE. At least with Gnome/X11 I never had any issues with external monitors. And it seems to always remember the display config of any monitors I had used in the pa

It definitely makes generic exploits harder. Without RELRO it's easy to leak libc once you find an overflow. You can also easily take control via overwriting the GOT pointers. Unsure what you mean by any in the binary - with PIE you ca

I decided to get a fully spec'd out Thinkpad X13 AMD 2nd gen instead - 32gb ram, 1TB ssd, 8/16 cores, 16:10 2k screen. All for the whopping price of 1k GBP, a third the price of a similarly spec'd MBP.

I think you convinced me to not get a new MBP. These are the exact kind of issues I had with prior MBPs. Also Emacs was always inexplicably 5x slower than on Linux. It's a shame we can't use alternative OSs on the hardware.

It's the philosophy of Arch to stick to vanilla as much as possible and keep things simple. It's a rolling distro too with no fixed release cycles. When you upgrade fedora, ubuntu, etc. they perform various scripts to migrate exis

That's incorrect. The go blog recommends copying your entire project into a v2 folder. They do suggest you can use tags/branches instead, but it will cause problems with GOPATH projects.

Any engineering methodology that requires 500+ pages to explain should be hard avoided. The size of those DDD books always made me run away. Good engineering should always come back to KISS. Abstract only when it helps reduce complexity.
