Interesting - I guess it still implies demand has increased though, assuming supply is fixed?

Getting an adult ADHD diagnosis on the NHS is very hard and time consuming. Most people in the UK get a private diagnosis - there are many online websites now that will diagnose you completely over zoom in 1 hour. In the US it's even e

I'm sure it could introduce something _like_ a result monad, but with the associated very clunky/verbose syntax in golang which reduces to conditionals and lots of type casts. I guess this is sort of where error is going. Somethin

I find it ironic that golang refuses to introduce exceptions, but instead is slowly turning errors into a crappy substitute. I feel like a modern language should do either two things with errors: exceptions, or a result monad. Since the lan

Yikes, 28 companies is something else. I had a somewhat similar experience in the last downturn in 2010 - first of all I couldn't even get an interview for like 3 months, then in the last 3 months of my garden leave I interviewed at ab

I'm definitely nitpicking here, but I'd say almost all languages use pass-by-value, and what you're talking about is copying a pointer. C++ actually has true pass by reference, nothing is copied in memory.

Next time you're on a bus, or other public area, peek at what people are doing on their phones. I'd bet it will be Facebook or Instagram like 99% of the time. Maybe WhatsApp outside of the US, and possibly Youtube. These are the a

It definitely is. I was hoping to have an open discussion rather than being downvoted to oblivion. What I'm observing is: there is a sudden rise in adult ADHD diagnoses. Big pharma is pushing marketing around ADHD, there are viral them

I believe ADHD exists. I've worked with children who have moderate/severe ADHD and it is very apparent. What I'm skeptical about is the rise in ADHD cases only diagnosed in adulthood. I think there are likely other explanatio

I'm becoming more of an adult-onset ADHD skeptic. I mean, there is even a crisis now because of an Adderall shortage [1]. People who legitimately need them (they cannot hold a job without it) are not able to get them. I think there is

I’d love to be a lifer. But also terrified of the idea, because I get comfortable very easily, and I’m afraid of ageism. Moving jobs is generally a catalyst for me to upskill and stay on top of tech trends. I'm also somewhat biased due

I think things are starting to heat up at Google lately - with increased pip quotas and top down pressure. But it’s also the only FAANG I know with people who have been there for 8+ years. Definitely seems like it was a very comfortable, lo

By stateful NAT they mean connection tracking. In the described solution, the LB/router doesn’t track connections - it simply looks up the server via local mapping from port range to server, and forwards the packet. Incidentally, this

The Complete Calvin and Hobbes (SCHOOL1+). Bought it for my then 8 year old and he still reads it regularly. Great for developing a sense of humor and learning to not take this world so seriously.

Looking at historic price per TFLOP makes no sense. No one has ever expected price to scale linearly with performance increase in subsequent generations. I know Nvidia wants that to be the case w/ the 4080 - but as can be seen, no one

Good question... I think there will be less demand for the high house prices/rent. But there are a lot of other factors, like high inflation.

I think the main change happening now is tech salaries are going to be coming down. There is intense pressure from investors on big tech to lower expenses - and a lot of that is what investors think are overpaid engineers. Rate of operating

Truly insane. It's a shame Mick had to go public on this so hard, I feel it has undoubtedly hurt his professional career. But what Marty/id Software did here is completely unacceptable and absolutely disgusting. What a mess.

Seems obvious to me. Making a public statement is always going to be the option of last resort for a professional. Seems like Mick did everything he could and finally did this as his last ditch attempt to at least rescue his reputation.

It’s bizarre to me that Apple has had no antitrust allegations yet. The way they manage iOS and the App Store is like a much worse version of Microsoft in the 90s.
