Yes, plenty of people. In fact, 2022 was the highest recorded immigration in history [1]. The fact remains UK has one of the best university systems and best opportunities for skilled work outside of the US. Yeah the Tory gov is trying thei

IME, having worked with "tech celebrities", the veneer they can work so hard on maintaining isn't exactly reflective of actually working with them. I worked with one particularly famous person, who barely did anything interna

We’re sliding into that post capitalist world that is depicted in so many “scifi” books. It’s apparent but everyone just seems to accept it. Things are going to be very bleak in 50-100 years with most people living in poverty with a tiny ri

There is something messed up in modern dating. IME a girl who is a 5/10 can get a date/laid easily, with barely any effort, and usually with a more attractive male. A guy who is 5/10 has to do insane antics just to get a shot

After using plexamp for the last year, it just reinforced my impression that the UX of Spotify is cosmically bad. Plexamp feels a lot like winamp, it is a nice pared down experience that just works and is fast. But I guess I'm just one

There were lots of reports of this with the hobbit, e.g. https://theweek.com/articles/469863/why-isthe-hobbit-making-... . Being on a big screen probably makes it much worse. Also I’d conjecture video games are dif

High refresh rate makes people feel sick. It's "too real", such that the brain can't synchronize what it's seeing to what it's feeling motion wise. Ultimately a 2d plane is not optimal for a realistic experienc

That's a good insight. A bit like unit tests, A-B tests drive the design of the website to make them testable. Not sure that is ultimately the best choice for UX, but here we are. I suppose it makes it a lot easier to justify one'

Apart from IF, I still sorely miss playing MUDs from when I was younger. Some of the worlds created by amateur writers were truly magical. Something I haven't ever quite got the same feeling from any graphical MMO.

I think we're all affected to different degrees. I've done a few interview loops in the space of a couple weeks and it never got easier. It just got worse as my insomnia got worse. I feel it's a miracle I can pass interviews

It's funny to me because this has been happening in tech a long time and is happening to the current giants. The old giants like IBM, GE, Motorola, etc. all suffered similar fates. And it's been discussed ad nauseum by disgruntle

Specialisation is a risky long term bet though. The amount of companies a good generalist software engineer can work at is orders of magnitude more than an ML engineer and I imagine it will remain like that for a long while. Same thing for
