This is awesome, but I wonder how useful it would actually be to use. I imagine the functionality is going to be limited to only the features shared among each platform (which is just text messaging? Unless by SMS they mean MMS also). The o

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as GNU/Windows, is in fact, GNU/Windows/NT, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Windows plus NT. GNU/Windows is not an operating system unto

Also, generally if you're doing a lot of math with floats (or some other numeric type) you can do: Float.(x + y * 2.0 - z / w) or even just open the Float module locally Also, the with-open-file problem can be solved pret

Worse yet, a backdoor or legitimate bug in any of these module could leave huge exploits in the entire Node.js ecosystem.

Here's a proposal (that I'm sure others have come up with in the past) -- why not create one big, community backed "batteries included"-type module that would implement all the small, commonly used functions. This could

Is there any points to making these threads? So far it's been <10 minutes of downtime. Not a big deal at all. If it's a few hours then I'd consider these appropriate, but for real... this downtime is tiny so far.

In general, short names tend to be used for the most generic variables. Renaming "g" to "theFunction" in the (|>) one-liner doesn't really clear up anything. Just seeing it applied to something makes it clear eno

Someone who was allegedly there when the kid did it commented on a thread yesterday. I doubt the NK government would be posting propaganda on HackerNews of all places, but hey, you never know.

I think in that way it would make sense to say that procedural is also prefix, then, since even very procedural languages like C use VSO. Some OOP languages use VSO too (Perl's indirect object syntax, Common Lisp with CLOS, etc.) And s

What is the connection between OO and infix vs. FP and prefix? Most FP languages use infix notation for operators, and Haskell even supports infix notation for all functions. Lisp does both OOP and FP in prefix notation.

No, it's because downvotes actively censor unpopular opinions based on the fact that they're unpopular rather than their merit. Check out reddit some time and you'll see this happen a lot.

Maybe it would be better to make real user polls then? Or how about just making the downvote optional when creating the issue/PR? I think in general, down voting serves more bad than good on nearly any medium.

Still not a fan of how it's done on SO. To me the best solution is not to include it at all. If you have something negative to say about a PR or Issue, it makes more sense to explain why you feel that way instead of outright saying no

Not necessarily. You can manually pass in the module for the monad using first-class modules and then define the functions in terms of that. You could also define those operations in terms of monads using a functor if you want it to look mo

You could encode a module as a record with a stored type and functions for it for Idris. Then you can simply create functors as functions that take one type of record in and return another type. The syntax is ugly, but you can define macros

While Idris doesn't have a module syntax, it's type system allows you to express ML modules with relative ease. It's not a great solution, but it's above Haskell in terms of this.

My Note 3 takes about 25 seconds to boot up completely. Newer devices tend to be faster booting up, so I don't think it will be a problem for the G5.
