Average quality of Python and PHP code differs drastically, so there must be something about the language.

How so? The problem with micropayments is not that the absolute numbers are low (in many currencies the numbers are always pretty high).

Intermediate code will obfuscate code's intent. Why require from the optimizer to reverse-engineer what you meant from a description at a different (lower) level of abstraction?

This is the facade pattern :) If you need it, this means you are overengineering. Applying it is even more overengineering.

If you care only about total cost of ownership and/or ecology, my intuition is you'd be better off buyng any small second hand car. The milage would be worse, but the up front cost would be much smaller. Also you'd be extending the lifetime

Aerodynamics? The buyers are supposed to care about mileage more than how it looks. Also it has a distinct look, I suppose Prius buyers like to be recognized as someone who cares about the environment.

I believe the Russian ISPs are highly interconnected, so Russian users get more bandwidth and less latency when they use local sites vs international.

I'd be curious to know what you think about this alternative architecture: http://mailinator.blogspot.com/2008/08/benchmarking-talkinat... Paul Tyma claims handling 40000 chat messages per second on a quad core desktop system with it.

Can you elaborate on the accessibility issues and page bloat, because the link doesn't. It lists "Increase traffic" and "Happier staff" among the benefits. Do you think pg would be happier if he followed some guidelines for web design? ;)

So it's a matter of personal preference after all. pg doesn't have another person for graphical design of the site.

Not sure if energy is important part of the equation. Protection from diseases and weather doesn't seem to require energy, it's about chemistry and structure.

Thanks for the insight. It's interesting why the external work supplied to the plants still costs less than growing plants that can do these things itself. I suppose chemistry and mechanization in agriculture are just much more efficient th

Not sure if it's more expensive, even if you ignore the free quota. Amazon charges you $0.10 per instance-hour, not cpu-hour like Google (so you only pay while you consume CPU). Also, you should probably compare the storage price not to S3/

Wii innovated and became better in an area that happened to matter more: player interaction with the console. I don't think it was obvious in foresight that this was so important.

There is something strange about the notion that programmer's ability declines with age. I am a bit over 30 now and I've only become better, as long as I'm motivated (it was easier to stay motivated when I was younger). It seems to me tha

Fake following doesn't seem like such a good idea. Better make it hardcoded design: never allow you to see if the people you are following are following you back.

The RTFMan responses are one of the worst things in Linux culture. Man pages are an exhaustive reference about what you can do with commands, that's true. But they are not written in a helpful way: you pretty much have to read it all every
