I'm sure a few million of reddit's 20 million UU's skip over the sopa stuff or they only browse one subreddit. They released some stats where less than 10% of the websites users even have an account and only 1% submit stuff. So Blocking out

Usually the way you solve GC issues is by either not allocating after some initial massive allocation, or by running the GC constantly and having it clean up bits and peices every frame. I don't know enough about ruby to know if this is pos

Java.util.concurrent is one of the most attractive features of java for server programming. ConcurrentHashMap is faster, cleaner and much easier to use than locking every time you need a access a shared HashMap. Not only that but it doesn't

This sounds like just the kind of thing I've been looking for. Would anyone be willing to comment on whether or not it's worth taking a semester off from college to do HS?

Well, If you run a few million entries, each one needing to write an individual entry and each entry takes 200 ms to write, that's your 2 weeks right there. I don't know how they are using GAE and if there is an alternative to their methods

Well, I think it's a bit of loaded question. What do I say? If I reach to high I endanger my own prospects at being hired. A buddy of mine answered the "see yourself in 5 years" question with "Probably working at Google". Needless to say he

Also its really important to know how float works in javascript. because 0.1 + 0.2 != 0.3 in Javascript. I don't know why "application developer" == "Don't have to know how the thing I'm using works" Quite frankly I can never get away from

I'm in the same boat as you (20,web/mobile). I've done my fair share of interview and here's what I've found: Anything that's worth doing involves a heavy amount of math. Most of my day is spend doing UI and I tend to deal with a heavy amou

I want to know what the stigma is over remoting. I know 37signals has quite a few remote engineers and they are doing quite well. There are loads of good engineers literally all over the country. But for some reason the Bay area would rathe

I feel like the people who are on hacker news don't really apply to this article. Anyone who can understand Javascript usually knows what Pythagorean theorem is. They probably understand, at least, calculus.

Lets extrapolate on that data a bit. Granted we don't have much to extrapolate on but lets put it like this. 1950-1970 = 20 years. 1970 + 20 = 1990. So by that logic those who are ~20 right now at the end of this, IMO, "bubble" so by that
