Mostly web. You always use a logging lib so no console really ever. Strings are used all the time but not substring or splice, 90% of uses for those are anti patterns tbh. Regex really never. Unless you're munging data in Python it

This 100%. When I'm involved in the interview process I make a point to check out all candidates side projects but over 90% of people don't care. In getting my last job I thought I would have a slam dunk because I have a bunch of

Signing jwt with RSA is a bad idea. Asymmetrical encryption methods are orders of magnitude slower than hmac. It sounds like a nice thing to do but it's really really slow compared to hmac. That's why TLS only uses the public key

That's only 1000 messages per second on average. A single database +app server could handle that load. Assuming a bunch of other stuff is happening 500 servers sounds generous. Wtf are they doing that each server can only handles one t

I've heard this so many times but I always wonder how the unicorn effect skew this. Do a majority of companies with such scaling issues fail? I've seen products go down in flames firsthand because performance was so bad. Never at

Instead of a bunch of hacks that are obviously going to blow up in someone's face one day why not just use a more suitable platform? Forking threads for web pages is so old school...And Python is a terrible choice for something at thei

Java isn't perfect but it's the defacto language for anything that doesn't need to be compiled. I personally really like Java and I've used a ton of languages over the years. Not a perfect design but it's hard to th

Java is easy to use once you understand it. I can code Java just as fast as C# or Python. In fact C# and Java are close enough to be mutually intelligible. The ceremony is all optional crap that most people don't worry about, it happen

I keep hearing the promise of GPU databases but they don't seem to be terribly useful for most real world workloads. It reminds me of the big hoopla for GPU h264 encoders. When they came out everyone realized the quality was worse and

In the case of AMP the only source that works with google is the official one. As soon as you fork it's not "AMP" compatible anymore. You see the other half of AMP is completely proprietary and runs on Google's servers.

The crazy thing is that AMP is open source and this is still happening. I've been tracking their GitHub and what is happening is that while yes, the source is open, they won't let you add anything they don't like. Oh, and if

I have seen a lot of companies do this and it's terrible. You get SEO mostly from long form in depth articles and dumping it into a PDF will tank something that would be page 1 to page 5. Google will prefer a well setup blog over a fil
