I've discovered so much about myself journaling. Journaling allows me to listen to myself in a way I cannot otherwise do; it separates me from my thoughts & feelings, which gives me the perspective I need to see myself a differen

This is the challenge of trying to do good - no matter how much better you are than the default, for some subset of users you will never be good enough, and they’ll complain just as loudly about you as they do the default (far worse) option

I can't help but put on my PM hat and say well this is almost certainly a statistical artifact, but they should probably take a closer look at the last software update.

Itanium was the OS/2 of chips, Microsoft used OS/2 to get IBM chasing a dead end while they baked Windows NT & 95 until their lead was secured.

Visible microphones really take away from the naturalness that you get from a fancy camera, and they make workspaces feel cluttered to boot. Recommend getting a shotgun mic (AudioTechnica AT875R) and mounted it atop the camera, as these sit

Agree, no 4X game I've seen does a kind of 'scale with scope' gameplay. Ideally the number of decisions and considerations would stay roughly the same for each turn throughout the game, regardless of how big the empire gets.

Yeah we’re early on in really nailing the formula. Butts in seats staring at screens doing single player activities isn’t a particularly compelling education environment nor one children are accustomed to biologically. We need more embodied

I don’t dismiss its value in the broader education system, nor for certain industries and jobs. But specifically in the context of K12 requirements & expectations in the process of applying for college, it’s hardly foundational knowledg

I've never understood the cult of calculus. I think it comes from mistaking the importance of its discovery for the importance of teaching it. It was a huge unlock for science, but is in no way a huge unlock for most people's live

Yep, tracking students into systems like high/low early on makes it very hard to ever escape that track, as they're a sort of self-perpetuating system. That has downstream effects for one's entire life. It's a crude meth

Very interesting! Cool dream too :) That suggests to me it may not be some inherent lack of capacity but more so the path to accessing that capacity that is the issue. Makes me think that phantasia might be improved through frequent practic

I wonder if study results would be different for aphantasics on psychedelics. I imagine aphantasia is like most other human differences and exists on a spectrum, so perhaps a mild psychedelic like THC may affect results.

It seems a lot of people are responding to this from the 'allowable speech' and 'consensus is bad' perspective, which triggers the inevitable 'its a private platform' or 'its just one place' response.

Macroeconomics really strains the definition of 'science'. Few economists would place their field's predictive or descriptive power anywhere near that of chemistry, physics, biology, and all the other hard sciences that are p

Agree the special Mac feel was real & quite nice. But Apple was lost in the 90s in all the important ways besides UX because their leadership didn't even understand the business. Product marketing: they offered dozens of ever-cha

It's amazing how short and selective people's memories are on this subject. The 'debate' happening right now is coming from an earnest place but very uninformed about realities of managing large online spaces.
