Certainly. But you wouldn't know it from the language in the Deals announcement, which uses the word "friend" no fewer than 10 times. We launched Places to let you share where you are with your friends and see who's nearby. Now with

Places is still a better deal for advertisers and retailers than it is for my friends, and deals is another step in the direction of empowering them (advertisers and retailers). You can check yourself in anywhere, tag your friends (whether

I have a french press on my desk at work. Without coffee, how can you save the world? Other times: OJ and water. I average less than 1 alcoholic drink per month: I don't like the taste of most alcohol and I intensely dislike being drunk. I

> One thing I will say about RIMM. You did a fantastic job when you named your company. Perfect name. Don't ever change it. Being named RIM also allowed them to acquire a fantastic short URL for their careers site: http://rim.jobs

I joined FB in late 2004. My main objections to today's Facebook are: * It's boring. * It's a waste of time. * I don't trust it. The new Places app is a great case study. Here you can check yourself in anywhere, tag your friends

SRE at Google is a position of high trust and engineering seniority. There will always be a need for a certain (very few) people to have access to sensitive user data -- that's why this breach is so embarrassing for Google. The most we can

I think it'd be a useful feature for a good number of their users. It should be able to extrapolate based on previous usage, and notify me if I'm extremely outside my average historical utilization rate. They ought to allow you to set a sen

I was an active, very satisfied Billmonk user with 9 or 10 friends. It was aggravating when Billmonk started choking; worse still when the degradation made the app more or less unusable. If you're in the same boat, we've since moved to htt

I used to do this too. My experience has been that certain email clients (Outlook on Windows, for one) will render your email address as first@last.us (sent by first.last@gmail.com) Clearly not desirable, and in my case, unacceptable

What would you prefer? I suspect most people don't need any more email. Twitter is as good a medium as any, and if you do need to discuss in more detail, I'm sure they're happy to receive your email feedback.

> But tell me this; how has Twitter never been as bad, when it has served so many more requests. Twitter has been that bad. Probably worse, in 2008 and parts of last year. Even 2010 has seen its fair share of fail whales.

Good point, and an important distinction to make for more technical audiences. Scalable, elastic pay-as-you-go architecture is a key attribute of cloud computing as well.

(Disclaimer: I work at Salesforce) We at SFDC hear a lot about offers to businesses of "your own private cloud", which is essentially marketing jargon for something very un-cloud-like: running software locally, on your own servers, while yo

That wouldn't have helped here -- @avi is a valid username, too. Edit: It should definitely autocomplete based on who you're following, but pg wasn't yet following anyone when he sent his first tweet.

This has been a known vulnerability since at least July 13. Interactive demos: http://erickerr.com/like-clickjacking This would appear to be (among?) the first malicious use of the like-jacking vulnerability.

As a Carnegie Mellon alumnus, I can assure you that many (if not most) CS/IS/MISM graduates already end up in NYC or San Francisco. Yours truly included (hello from SF!) DC, Pittsburgh, Baltimore are popular too, though much less so.

How many people do you have on the phones? How long do they work? I'd like to see a smaller plan size, something I could do on a one-off basis to someone on twitter.
