The same Prime Directive from the fictional show Star Trek? No, I am not concerned.

This is really well said and I hadn't thought about it quite like this. It's true, I really don't mind when my colleagues on my team are talking within earshot or even adjacent teams I may tangentially support. What I hate th

Law salaries are very bimodal. Effectively you either make $40k or $160k. The average career of the lower salary person is pretty long and can be soul crushing, making $60-75k after a decade or two of public defender or prosecutorial work.

Attenuation of radio waves (long membrane) is way too high, that's true, but radio isn't the only way to transmit that we could theoretically pick up. Gravity waves for example would be a way to transmit across the whole universe.

This is a good, albeit general, article and I really enjoyed and tracks with my experience putting models into production. But I didn't read it at first because I assumed it was about, as you point out, the specific mathematical/d

Given your tldr which presumably summarizes the relevant parts of the story, is it your take that this is a nonstory because the autonomous Tesla simply hit the pedestrian at a high rate of speed rather than "vaporizing" them?

I don't think it's that, it's actually pretty radical a position in the US to say we shouldn't enforce immigration law or we should effectively have open borders. The controversy comes in the harsh manner in which DHS ha

Same boat for movies. I used to use icefilms or torrents extensively for every film. But now my first stop is Justwatch to find out what service has the film I want to watch, and then I log into that service and buy it. Admittedly some serv

In a vacuum, I don't think so, no more than someone who never had a Wendy's burger because their default was a Big Mac is missing out. It's really just a different default and from a taste or "missing out" perspecti

I ordered an Impossible Whopper and a regular Whopper a couple months ago to try back to back. I thought they were comparable, if not very similar. I'm sure the toppings help blur the taste line. I don't eat fast food much, but wh

Same situation here. For steaks and other things like that, I've moved to exclusively using a local butcher who has all of their livestock grown for them in small quantities on very small regional farms. For the other stuff, I can hard

If Geoff Hinton or Francois Chollet add emojis to their writing, it is visually less pleasing in my opinion but I agree with you overall. When it's someone I don't know though, it makes me trust the writing less because I can&#x27
