The Google Photos app spin-off is one of the best things ever to come out of Google (IMHO).

This BR domination started years after Orkut was launched (more or less in line with availability of FB to the general public). It was always a 20% Google project, so not sure why you refer to it as an "acquisition".

Hmmm. Orkut was a 20% project that blew up, but as friends at Google told me, was never created/properly engineered for the growth it experienced (after a while mainly in South America and India). I'm surprised it lasted as long a

Great idea. You mention how much time is spent on looking at/for styles (incl. members of my family) but I'm not sure everyone here is aware of the average spend on hair and hair-related products: Mintel estimates the 2016 spend

I'm not a Hackintosh builder, have considered it many times. From the video's I've watched, the big trick, especially if you use Final Cut Pro X with OpenCL, is to avoid NVidia and use AMD Radeon video cards. Supposedly this

At the time it was implied they would be matched to existing members (a one-time check, as other services did). The "we're holding on to them in perpetuity" bit was definitely not clear. The spammy part happened a little late

FB did steal the web and your social network. Remember how FB grew? If not, let me remind you: "See which of your friends are also on FB! Just give us your Google and Yahoo contacts". Yes, you gave FB permission to check your co

Dismissed Wordpress for many years, then I found WPEngine (I know, mentioned below, but I have some points to make). Edit: Not affiliated with them in any way. Just a really big fan. My number one reason for WPEngine is their excellent supp

The wake word is detected by the hardware. There's a reason why there are just 3 (Alexa, Amazon, Echo). PS I'd love to call mine 'Computer' or 'Hal'.

True, it does have an 8GB flash drive, according to iFixit (4GB in the Echo Dot). For now, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. My cell phone is a much more useful target for the government (location, video/audio, browser histo

It stops listening. No action required. You can check in the Alexa app what is recorded (I just did). You can also check what is sent out to Amazon (which is what I did when I got the first one, using wireshark). The hardware is listening a

Alexa listens only to the words after the wake word. What's more it doesn't capture more than 10-12s past the wake word. If you have a device you can check this yourself (Alexa, One Mississippi, Two Mississippi…). It's actual

Is this common? I would never accept this. The 10k shackles guy could still pursue new employment with a 10k+ signing bonus (without strings this time) to pay off the first, or take his chances and leave to see what a judge will say. Edit:
