What's the point in raising $155mm if you aren't going to spend it on growing like crazy? Otherwise it'll just sit in the bank lowering the average return. (Free soda comes under 'development expenses' in my view.)

It's amazing how well Slashdot's comment/karma system works, despite 10 years of frankly inexplicable web site management. Porting it to HN (without the crazy interface) might help with managing growth. In particular this comment is great:

I really enjoyed playing with it, but I think it won't shine until higher level libraries are ported/written for it. There are basic URL dispatchers and template systems, but nothing as battle-tested as Django (yet). Easy access to streamin

I think the responsibility does rest with Netflix, because it's almost outside the control of one person to keep identities separate these days. Every bit of information released vastly increases the chance of identification. To given an ex

When I worked in software Engineering (big E, giant processes) the developers left at 4:30pm every day except Fridays, when they left at 12:30. (Thanks to flex-time and a 7:30 start.) That environment was remarkably un-geeky. A median engin

Focused twitter lists are great for free marketing by the way. http://theplanis.com/pmotscores/ brings in 26% of my new visitors, all from a highly targeted vertical, with fantastic conversion rates.

At the moment I use ad block in manual mode and zap only ads that flash or move. It's a pain though and it's a constant temptation just to turn on easy list and kill everything. If there was a filter list subscription for those which still

Communism is not socialism is not totalitarianism. Sweden is a socialist state, and a family is a commune. Just because ideas have failed spectacularly in some places and on some scales doesn't mean they don't work well elsewhere.

I believe they flew the A380 a few times before the big day. Watching them throw it around a bit at the Paris air show was interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH6tO1qZez8#t=1m06s

The A380 also gets cost savings from sharing the landing fees, taxes and slot costs between more passengers. That's more applicable for busy airports though - I'd bet that a lot of the traffic at LHR and ATL will switch over to A380s, while

A big part of the reason for hanging the engines is actually because it means you can make the wings less robust. If you have in-wing engines they generally have to be near the root (where the wing connects to the fuselage) because engines
