Do we really need these clickbait headlines on Hacker News? For a while, this was a refuge from that garbage.

I see Google search decline in three stages: - When they became ad obsessed where entire search results are filled with ads or YouTube recommendations - Developed recency bias, aka if it's new it must be better, which has incentivized

What are the odds that crypto miners will start picking up M1 Max MacBook Pro's? Not cost effective, presumably.

Similar arguments were made with why factories, tech support, customer service, etc couldn't possibly leave the USA. And they did anyway.

Yes, people who don't see this coming are in for a potentially rude awakening. The US tech worker is about to get NAFTA'd.

Now the developed world will compete with the developing world to lower wages in the developed world. The high salaries and perks for many USA tech jobs may not last much longer. No need for companies to pay more for premium locations /

DuckDuckGo is often a superior search engine to alternatives, certainly less human bias, but their name does not help them. Who says "DuckDuckGo it?" They need to shorten the name considerably, either to Duck, or pick a different

Interesting idea but the search matches aren't great. Also the UI is not easy to scan, the list view of search results has been standardized for decades now for a reason.

I suspect many people would leave many jobs if offered a comparable payout, particularly if their skills are valuable

Guessing nearly 1/3 of employees at many companies would leave immediately if offered 6 months salary. Or maybe it's because those people were upset that discussing politics was not part of their job description?

You can experience this directly yourself on a near daily basis right now, here's all you need to do. - Go on social media and find the endless streams of videos showing mayhem and violence at many of the protests / riots going on

Weight gain and loss is simple physics. If you want to reduce obesity, focus on the dietary input. Virtually nobody is active enough to burn the extreme number of excess calories consumed that leads to obesity and the maintenance of obesity

Seems unlikely for cultural reasons. Consuming obscure, rare, and endangered species is a significant component of traditional Chinese medicine (which is also widely practiced elsewhere in Asia) regardless of efficacy.

I believe this has been known a very long time. That's why most tooth brushes are full of fecal coliform. But given how nasty c-diff is, perhaps this will lead to some change in behavior or environment.

It's far beyond the web, polarization/toxicity is now all over politics, media, outrage mobs, protests, etc. It's growingly reminiscent of cultural revolutions and other negative historical events, which is not a good thing.
