Is this an ad for Vals AI? Looking at their website, the rankings don't mesh with my observed utility for almost any model outside of fable and astra being good-ish.

In my experience actual experts don’t hedge because they have a perspective. They might say “I think”, but avoid weaseling.

what benefit do they get from making the statement? they could just say nothing. saying it and having it be untrue opens them to legal issues that are not worth the risk for this nothingburger.

That’s a good question! A mix of both. There are definitely people who see it as a step on their validation treadmill. Most people want to make money. But a lot of people are just techno optimists who think they can do something.

Huge amounts of insolvency is due to supporting this failed urban planning experiment. Urban centers are significantly more economically productive and significantly less expensive. Carism leads people into this trap when they should be adv

From what I’ve been able to read it seems like it was a net positive public health intervention that’s been horribly dramatized.

latency, instruction adherence, reliable tool cools, conversationality are all in tension. it's great when you can get a 170ms ttft. but if you have 700 ms endpointing on the stt side and 300ms ttfb on the voice side, then you haven&#x

Having been through YC, there's certainly some of this, but the overwhelming majority of founders were pretty down to earth. People generally just want to solve hard problems.

The objective of most large scale post training i am aware of is not to make think traces or to make them “more English and answer aligned”. It’s to achieve a result. That’s why I am calling it incidental

Lesswrong is just so comically collectively incorrect. This makes no sense. There is no guarantee that reasoning aligns with an outcome. Reasoning is effectively saying with more compute and ability to change attention on the fly by alterin

Celeris reaches ~50% of the speed on commodity hardware. celeris-magnus-1 is based on qwen3.8-27b. Maybe we will get there without custom silicon!

z3 is also just so thoroughly optimized that even if your formulation of the constraints is inefficient it is faster. it is a great library that lets you solve pretty complicated DP problems with a few dozen lines of code.

in my last tests with cerebras for coding tasks, most large tasks or anything greenfield would hit token limits. note that smaller models and the gpt-oss-120b style models they used to run are very prone to overthinking, so individual turns

150k TPM limit on public endpoint means that it's likely unusable for many coding tasks. When we've tried Cerebras in the past, our problem has always been rates. We'd love to not deal with dedicated and to have access to a m

As someone who grew up below the poverty line for much of my life — 2x the poverty line seemed like wealth to me. There are absolutely people getting by on “feels like” 50k a year. There are not really frills, but in terms of “have shelter

People are not as capable as you think they are and software engineering (well) is actually difficult. You cannot just push more people in. People are not fungible.

Many Amazon teams have had high expectations for work. The stories I’ve heard have largely been around how AI is used, slipping CR standards, and what is funded.

Some of the largest, highest TPS, highest throughput systems in the world use DDB. The constraints are what let this happen. Unconstraining it might make a better generalist product but part of what you're opting into with DDB is the d

There’s something odd about the concentration of true believers in ai xrisk and climate change catastrophism. They are both technopessimist in a way that is seen as progressive. Stopping progress in AI would make people’s lives immeasurably
