we “reinvented” our metrics database engine 5 times? that’s news to me! :-)

as others have said, likely too low. tcas is pretty awesome (and yes, most military flights will use it), but it is (deliberately) muted/degraded at low altitudes (i think around 1500feet).

it’s actually really hard for private jets / charter (whether part 91 or part 135) to use dca. requirements include having an armed officer on board. as a result almost nobody flies charter into dca.

the article you linked to is more than a year old, and does acknowledge that at the time spacex was flirting with profitability. do you contend that they are not currently “profitable”? also, many (maybe most?) privste companies deny employ

while it’s true that spacex is a private company, it’s widely known that they are highly profitable. they have many institutional investors, and a long line of people that would love to be on their cap table.

that’s what i meant. what makes this plane unique is its single jet engine. this also makes running costs lower.

also worth mentioning - the vision jet is afaik the only single jet passenger jet that is fully certified.

awesome to see the first real world example of a caps parachute deployment on the vision jet working out well. the caps parachute results in “a good day for the passengers — walk away, bad day for the insurance company — plane will never fl

so is a subscription to appletv or netflix analogous to a landlord? i’m really trying to understand your worldview.

i don’t think your point is a valid retort; when you’re paying a landlord you are receiving something of value that you want for yourself, just like when you pay for a cheeseburger.

the fact that the payment has been delayed and the judgement has been appealed this long is one of the least interesting parts of the story… imo. (and yes, every story has different perspectives, and i don’t claim to have the facts at hand

i’m sure there’s some company that would feel confident in their math and stats to pay out x million to the defendant immediately, rather than 36m, in exchange for having the rights to the claim/pending payment assigned to them? the on

it’s not particularly wrong. there is indeed a general correlation between birth rate and economic development.

the gp is trying to make the point that countries with higher birth rates tend to be poorer and/or more oppressive.

you couldn’t even physically even do that in a boeing plane, because of sensible hmi choices that boeing made early in their history. so i think your point is completely invalid.

you’re spot on with how safe commercial air travel is today. it’s actually insane when you think about it. but the reason its so safe is because there are so many redundancies built into so many different layers of the system. once rot star
