Another dozen or so of these and the self mutilation that teach companies have engaged in the last few years with mass lay-offs should finally end. Extrapolating at current rates I guess that means April 2026.

What's the state of IRC these days? I've not kept up since the mid 00s and wonder where people have gone now.

I build CO2 laser cutters after dropping out from my physics PhD for 18 months. Unlike you I do know what I'm talking about.

OK, put you face in front of a 45w co2 laser tube and report your results. The laser is collimated but not focused so by your logic it will be fine. This is advice on par with eating tide pods.

Yes, this is a guide on how to be a software developer, not a computer scientist. Poor name aside it isn't terrible advice for what it is.

It's 45w of lasing power. I have a scar on my hand that's 15 years old from running one of those at 10% power and getting a reflection from a bare metal sheet. This will absolutely scar, if not char, your cornea faster than you ca

Home rigs like that are no longer cost effective. You're better off buying an rtx pro 6000 outright. This holds both for the sticker price, the supporting hardware price, the electricity cost to run it and cooling the room that you use

I don't think we've seen the end game yet. I have an electric cargo bike. During a kids party yesterday I ran 5 different errands with it while someone with a car managed to get stuck in traffic, not find a parking spot, and miss

If you can give that bibliography I'd love to read it. I have the same intuition and a few papers seem to support it but more and explicit ones would be much better.

The same is true of all infrastructure from roads to water pipes. You are being obtuse for the sake of AI doomerism.

I disagree. We have been living on the investment of previous centuries and decades in the West for close to 40 years now. Everything is broken but that didn't matter because everything that needed a functioning physical economy had mo

That is motion not action. The point of javascript is to display websites in the browser. Ask yourself, in the last three years has there been a substantial improvement in the way you access websites? Or have they gotten even slower, buggie

Never mistake motion for action. An eco system moving too quickly, when it isn't being fundamentally changed, isn't a sign of a healthy ecosystem, but of a pathological one. No one can think that js has progressed substantially in

The overwhelming majority of people who worked on x11 are retired and a growing minority are dead. This is the fourth incarnation of x11 and the people working on it now have nothing to do with the people who developed it. Xorg is the casto

The big failure is that we stick with languages designed for computers and not people. A C (or Rust) kernel is a heroic effort that takes man-years to complete. A Lisp one is an end of semester project that everyone builds for their make be
