The most popular Scheme (Racket) comes with an object system, that I almost instantly fell on when I came to it from C#. I don't think there's any substitute to just explaining the problems with OOP.

The rest of the points here are excellent, but don't use `unsafe` until you have completely internalised the borrow checker rules. If your safe attempt is unsafe (and therefore doesn't pass the borrow checker), your unsafe code wi

The difference is between art which is seen as "too adult" being said to ruin society (like movies/games), which generally aren't that bad, and content which is specifically targeted at exploiting children's mental

I'm not bipolar, but I have a few friends that are and being bipolar _fucking sucks_. No-one who glamourises mental illness has real experience with mental illness.

But I don't think this article is trying to say "this type of person is great but society keeps them down, man". Or at least, that's not how I read it. The author explicitly says that the failure comes from lack of appli

I love most of Ubuntu's tools, but I can't stand Unity. It's ugly, it's slow (compared to other Linux DEs, obviously, it's still Fast Enough for most people), and worst of all it shows all the graphic pornography I

Lots of uses of "the" in C++ code, massively skewed by giant projects that have the massive section of boilerplate copyright info in a comment at the top of every single file. I didn't realise until I looked at this, but alth

You could have a general-purpose "heap" interface that controls allocation. This would mean that you could control allocation space (for games this is really useful), and tearing down the the heap would tear down its owned objects

Python's colon is not for the sake of the compiler (you could theoretically parse a version of Python without them), there were studies that showed that it's easier for humans to read with it than without. A lot of Python's d

At the risk of sounding inflammatory, what would be the point of using a parser generator over a powerful applicative-style combinator library like https://github.com/Marwes/combine ? I've used both in the past an

This is awesome, I only wish it was a mode integrated into Emacs, like evil-mode. I can't afford to give up the debugging, completion etc. that I get as part of emacs, but I would love to use this in my day-to-day flow.
