Is your brother in Scotland? If not he should get his tax code checked. Combining income tax and national insurance contributions, the highest marginal tax rate on your salary is 47%, and that is only on everything over £125k (about $150k).

I don't know about decades, but my son is still using my 2011 Macbook Air. It's had two battery replacements and an SSD upgrade. My issue is less about the hardware and more about the OS upgrades.

Thanks for putting this in context. I'm sure there are issues specific to Apple, but the entire market has hit the buffers at the moment.

I'm reading these comments and thinking the same. While I have had a handful fail quicker than I think they should, on the whole ours are great. A bunch of them are dimmable, most are warm-white for a cosier light. We can turn on every

I've noticed that my LEDs seem to have a bimodal lifespan. In parts of the house where we have many of the same kind, we went through a period early on where a few lasted much less time than I expected and had to be replaced, but now I

This is a big part of it. I tend to pay a reasonable amount for my LEDs and I've yet to be disappointed. I very rarely replace bulbs despite having dozens of fixtures, and the quality of the light is good because I made a point of buyi

There is a concept like this in the Clarke novel The City and the Stars. One of the entertainments in the far future is essentially playing out pre-scripted stories in a VR kind of system with your friends (although it's a full brain i

The podcast Bad Bets has a series on Nikola, it's incredible just how bad the fraud was, and how long it took to be uncovered just what a con artist Milton was.

Depends if you are going for portability. If you want something for the walk home it’s got to be a kebab really. But if it’s the middle of the evening sit down meal before getting a taxi home then it might well be a curry.

Not a documentary but Micro Men, it was a one-off BBC drama about that era.

Assuming that’s just a good faith error (rather than made up) they probably meant kerosene, which was widely used for lamps. Still seems like a weird thing to do.

I’ve seen this in use a couple of times, it’s surprisingly fun to play with and my kids love it. I had no idea it was an open source project.

That is pretty much the whole idea of the Staff+ Engineer track that mirrors the management track. The divergence normally happens after senior engineer level. Smart companies have been doing things like this for decades. The first company

More and more pubs in the UK are doing this too, especially the ones that are more focused on drinks than food. It’s a way to keep more money in the business as a whole, with the added benefit that the house beers are often cheaper and extr
