Wait, you can run crostini on ChromeOS Flex? I thought only real Chromebooks could do that.

Coming from linux and developing for linux, I don't share the authors experience. I mainly bought my chromebook convertible for university for notetaking. But now I am also doing all my freelance development work on open-source high av

To clarify, you can run standard linux apps in a linux VM with seamless file, wayland and X11 passtrough ("crostini"). Even nested virtualization works. And you can run android apps in a android VM.

At least Chromebooks are secure out of the box. It's sad Google seems to be the only player in this space who really cares about security. Every other OS is a shitshow by comparison.

Chrome cares a lot more about PWAs. WebSerial, WebUsb, etc. aren't supported on firefox.

That's news to me. Source? MicroOS is and will be its own cool thing AFAIK. I'm guessing they will provide a MicroOS based on Leap in the future.

If anything, BEVs have even more older processes built in for high-power dc-dc conversion, motor driving, battery management etc. Less gigahertz and gigaflop, more kilovolt and kiloampere.

Silicium chips and transistors are used for so much more things than cutting-edge computing. Germany is not really in that business (yet) so this is more a move to get their current supply-chain for automotive, machinery, etc. more independ

I'm not going to analyze if this is illegal or not (I don't think it is). It has been discussed elsewhere already. But even if it where illegal, the only people in a position to sue would be the contributors of the upstream projec

Interesting how this will turn out in the future. I think longterm, Rocky and Alma Linux will have to switch to the ( oh so unstable ) CentOS Stream sources. I just don't see anything else feasible for them. In the end their users will

This doesn't change much IMHO. Already when you report a bug for some years-old piece of software (as is the case for LTS distros), upstream projects will first ask you to reproduce with the latest version or even straight from git mas

This is great actually! Redhat continues to keep the same maintainers and devs on payroll and working on the same open-source projects, so the OSS ecosystem won't loose anything in that regard. But where will the big research labs that

The COLO effort is driven mainly by Intel China and they are currently deploying it at some Chinese cloud provider AFAIK. Unfortunately, as cool as VMWare FT and QEMU COLO are, you need high-bandwith and low-latency links between the nodes

QEMU can do that too nowadays with COLO (COarsegrained LOckstepping) [1]. It's quite fun to randomly yank a Node, wait for resync and repeat and see how the VM stays alive all the time. :) [1] https://wiki.qemu.org/Feat
