Thanks for the suggestion! We'll certainly look into Freebase. We don't use the google maps API to plot the points, only the map itself. So we don't need limit ourselves to these restrictions. In this case we render the point

As for the data that came from dbpedia, we took all events with a some kind of a date and location that have the rdf:type http://dbpedia.org/ontology/MilitaryConflict . This seems to include all events in which the mili
