Thank you for the first comment I’ve come across that points to the specific problem. Yes, this seems quite bad. One could probably apportion some blame to the businesses who assumed a fix from Congress would be forthcoming, but on the whol

I only entered this comment section to watch the trash fire, and without making any observation on any other aspect of your comment (or any other for that matter) but - the Milk assassination was, what, almost 50 years ago? Surely that can’

This actually doesn’t seem that silly to me. Isn’t this a bog standard Pigouvian tax? And I think it should be fairly uncontroversial that there are definite negative externalities to handles of liquor…

TARP did turn a profit, but there was no guarantee that the US treasury wasn’t going to take a loss on it. Now, if these companies are willing to sign over warrants for 79.99% of the equity (like the banks did)… well, maybe there’s somethin

Look up CDARS. There are well known cash management strategies that solve for exactly this set of circumstances. I’m not really sure why taxpayers are supposed to backstop CFO competence? But to answer your question, yeah, I think the equit

LOL, nope. Not interested in taking another spin on the “privatize gain, socialize loss” merry-go-round. The banks had to be saved in 2008 because they were, like, the financial system. I don’t see why private companies and funds that are m

Without commenting on the ramifications of Twitter’s decision here, except to say if I had been in their position, that’s not the business decision I would have made, I have a few observations on this. 1. These developers are for-profit ent

What’s strange about that? The owners boost cash flow by jacking up parking rates, create a higher value for their asset, and take out a new loan against it. The original loan gets paid off and the owners get to take out the new equity base
