I just posted a comment elsewhere to this effect, but as a extremely light Twitter user (have an account, don’t post, click on a handful of links to Twitter posts a week), really basic functionality has become mostly unusable for me since t

This is true, a lot of people do seem to me laboring under the misapprehension that Reddit is a coop. Probably more than any other factor, that explains 95% of the current controversy (the other 5% mostly being that spez thinks he’s Elon Mu

Yeah, I think you’re exactly right. My guess would be that as a public company, Reddit looks a lot like Lyft - not a terribly differentiated product, cost structure out of control, poorly performing stock, but still a multi-billion dollar c

I haven’t liked Reddit’s actions so far, but I figured that they were just taking a heavy handed approach toward achieving profitability or a state where they could take the business public. But to hear that they’re looking at social media

Depending on prevailing circumstances (basically how long has it been since there’s been a financial crisis, or how frothy are the markets currently?), it can be a pretty common product. Like Patrick wrote, smaller lenders and private bank

Ha, I think I’m probably in a pretty similar boat as you. I don’t have the expertise to evaluate any of the underlying science, so all I can really do is try to logically evaluate whatever I read about it (taking into account the author’s p

Yeah, web view is paywalled unfortunately. I wish I could read it via RSS, but it’s pretty much the one newsletter/blog type thing that I don’t mind getting in my inbox.

I think the May thing was a glitch - I’ve continued to receive mine, but I’ve heard from at least a couple friends who stopped receiving it around then. If you want to re-subscribe, it’s still free and don’t have to deal with the Bloomberg

Really interesting post, thank you. I looked at the linked page, and had a really hard time figuring out what this, well, is, or how it’s supposed to work. It sounds to me like some of my naive initial reservations are impediments to actual

Also, no support at all for Mac OS or iOS seems like a deal killer at the price point. Maybe it’s just the circles I run with, but I think it would actually be pretty unlikely to select a group of (say) three friends chosen at random and ha

Don’t worry, the industry has at least one more act in it. That’s when the stagnant industry that is nonetheless critical to daily life is taken hold of by a new generation and relentlessly optimized for maximum profit extraction. Hope you

Reader probably made “sense” too for the axe-wielding CFO, in that I can’t imagine it generated any meaningful revenue. But I also can’t imagine it consumed much in the way of resources either… I still use Gmail, but that’s it for me among

Thanks for the detailed responses. A couple follow up questions. Or I guess two variants on the same deeply held instinct I hold, but maybe I need to expand beyond animal brain thinking? OK, so real profits (due to a real pricing discontinu

Yeah, 95 looks really good. So does OS 8. Can’t believe how pixelated OS X looks in retrospect. That didn’t age super well, but it looked pretty at the time.

The loans are non-recourse to the developers , so while they might have to turn over the keys to the property at the end of the day, the bank isn’t coming after them for their other projects or personal assets. A busted deal isn’t a happy

Yup, that’s consistent with what I remember from back then. I remember having to give my new landlord a check for six or eight grand when I picked up the keys. Sounds about right for first + last + deposit + 1 mo broker’s fee.

Eh, at some threshold, of course a lower price would have changed the outcome. It sounds like the Apollo dev thought API costs came in at 10-20x what he’d been expecting. I think there’s obviously a huge difference between paying Reddit, sa

It was a thing in NYC last time I rented an apartment there, though that was 15+ years ago. But, it was deeply ingrained enough at that time I can’t imagine it went away, unless it was legislated out of existence.
