LOL, I actually didn’t know that meme, but that’s perfect. The closest I’ve ever been to experiencing my own death was trying to figure out how terrain following radar worked on one of the DCS planes. I was bopping along in IMC and had mayb

I play some DCS and am incredibly bad at it. And I harbor no illusions that it is in any material way an accurate depiction of aerial combat or the rigors thereof. But one thing I think it completely accurately conveys is at least a small m

I never tried to put on the trade (thank goodness) but there was a period of years where Tesla looked like the equity was going to $0. I think as a matter of traditional corporate finance, that was indisputably true, but obviously it did no

Yeah, Ben’s primary talent seems to be weaving a narrative about how he’s successfully predicted 18 of the last 11 trends to reshape the industry, and to make it sound believable. Nvidia’s executing on all cylinders, and has been for a whil

We had hundreds of deaths in the span of 2-3 days during the winter storm in 2021. It didn’t catalyze any political change then, so unfortunately I think you’re right about the effect the next time it happens. I have been surprised by the r

Thank you - respectful tone taken, and I hope it was similarly received. I have only the most tangential experience with this world, but I feel like I have fairly good reason to believe that the conditions that are supposedly “not automatic

Respectfully, I think there are important cultural differentiators where - to my mind at least - I can’t think of a single American commercial pilot who committed suicide and deliberately took the passengers with him. Whereas half a dozen

Yeah, I was just curious if we had traded one environmental catastrophe for another - like if HCFCs were better for ozone but far more potent greenhouse gas pollutants. I think I’ve read something along similar lines about another substance

Phoenix with air conditioning is a pleasant enough place that millions of people want to live there. Phoenix without air conditioning - well, it’s a much smaller number.

I feel like the story was implied that refrigerants are consumed in the course of operation. I think that point could have been more artfully stated. Did you happen to notice whether HCFCs had worse greenhouse gas effects than CFCs?

I have a tremendous amount of sympathy for pilots who are forced to neglect their mental health because ordinary treatment that is well within the fairway for the vast majority of Americans can get them grounded. I don’t have a whole lot of

I don’t know about the Tobii glasses, but I have a Tobii head/eye tracker that attaches to my monitor, and it works incredibly well and was only $200 or so. I’d be surprised if this isn’t an essentially solved problem at this point.

That quote is incredibly dystopian and just seemingly obviously wrong on its face. Misalignment can creep in anywhere, at any time, and I would probably rather have, you know, a life, than spend all my time, every single day, in the same ph
