The biggest tactic I've seen is their inability to be consistent. In 2 years, I spoke to 3 Oracle reps and received vastly different quotes for the same hardware, features, processors/cores, etc.

I recall that QNX/Photon floppy disk in the late 90s. The entire OS and a GUI on a single floppy!!! (And it didn't look like GeOS or Windows 1)

Unfortunately, at that point in my life, Vim/Emacs were completely unknown to me. When I hit my 20's and got stuck in Vim, everything changed.

As much as I love Linux (I'm typing this from my IBM Thinkpad running Arch with a KDE desktop) There are far too many warts to call it "ready". Every morning, I plug into my widescreen monitor, and watch as application window

In the late 90's I was doing a lot of IT work as a college student. One of my clients was an accounting firm that was still on a Novell Netware network. All of their apps were ancient terminal-based programs. Lotus 123 was one of the m

If you work in a music studio, and you call yourself a sound engineer, no one is going to ask to see your credentials because it's assumed that you engineer sound. The same holds through with software engineering. No one expects you to

Seeing how many 2013 Altimas are just blowing up transmissions, Nissan/Renault appear to be estimating the lifespan of one of their automobiles as 5 years. I'm glad they've got their eye on long-lasting batteries, but, maybe

During the 2016-2017 New Year I did an intense look into Purescript. I bought the LeanPub book and did all kinds of stuff with it. More recently I did a look into ReasonML. I bought the Pragprog book and worked through that. For me, it came

The bootloader is the part I dread EVERY time I set up a new Arch install (basically every couple of years) I have to relearn it every stinking time! I'm using rEFInd these days so that either helps or hurts the cause.

Sadly we have several cities chomping at the bit to BECOME the next Silicon Valley. There's little regard to exactly what that means.

I should probably specify the level of "tongue-in-cheek" in which my dismissive comment was made. I'm well aware of the function of medical (as well as other) insurance. Having a family, I'd be a fool to "go it alon

When I look at what my insurance company actually covers for all of my doctor bills, I'd probably be better off just paying the penalty. At least I'd have a few hundred more every pay check to cover that 11 extra dollars that my i

Why is it wrong to hire a developer that's had experience in the exact field in what I'd want them to work? Isn't that a great deal of ALL hiring? It's a bit like having a home builder job interview: "Have you had e
