Because optimizely is a marketing department's wet dream for invalidating a dev department. "See, we can add content by ourselves! we don't need any highly paid developers!". Meanwhile, it jacks in jQuery to add DOM node

Which is so odd as CTRL-D is also the bookmark shortcut in Google Chrome. So, say for example, my team has a goto channel where we have our ad-hoc meetings. It's a pain to bookmark it for later use without jumping through the gui.

I have the book. I've tried reading it several times. I just can't get into it. My major complaint is that it gives a ton of code examples and then "don't do this" is written under it. So one has to be extremely ale

I know that a few years ago it was en vogue to say this but, hasn't HHVM diverged from off-the-shelf PHP? Facebook as a company has so many moving pieces written in so many different languages. Yes, the original codebase was a large PH

I'm not sure why anyone would be downvoting your data point. I am pretty bothered at how much emphasis folks throw behind the TechEmpower benchmarks. If you really dig into the implementations for the top languages, it's easy to s

I think THAT is where the apathy comes in. THAT is probably the biggest concern of your average internet surfer. They think, "I don't trade any high level secrets... I'm a nobody". So the worst thing they can conceive is

Is the Azul JVM open source? I thought it was just the support which costed money. (I'm just not familiar enough with it)

That's interesting. The .NET Core experience shows a lot of promise. I'd fear getting into an old school .NET shop almost as much as I'd fear getting into a "stuck in Java <= 1.7" shop.

Wow, this is taking me back to a former life of mine! The idea of a built-in TBC scares me a bit though. I guess it's not a big deal if you don't plan on mixing with other sources. I'd always prefer the shared black-burst gen

While I wouldn't exactly put it in the Rails category, I love Spring Boot far more. I love Micronaut even MORE than Spring Boot... but that's another story. Spring Boot doesn't tick ALL the Rails boxes (Scaffolding a backend

I love how beautiful i3-gaps is. I worked awfully hard to get i3, Dunst, Polybar and many other tools to give me a WM only experience. And frankly, I hate that part of it. Simple things like configuring bluetooth, or switching audio... or w

Even though there is a book on Functional Programming in Go, I'd say, the entire idea really bends the language into an odd shape. Certainly one could implement map/reduce/filter (I think Rob Pike actually did create examples

That might not be completely fair. In our sister organization, we had a 20 year Java veteran switch his teams to Elixir because he was concerned about Oracle's licensing. Even though it was a misunderstanding, I wouldn't assume &q

I can echo this sentiment exactly. I started as a kid with a Yamaha PSR-500 with a built in multi-track sequencer. I wrote SO many songs on that thing. In my teenage years, I added a Boss DR550 Mk2 drum machine synced via MIDI and my song c

Yeah, OCaml's docs are FAR worse as they're often just type signatures. I'm also not a fan of Oracle's Java docs as they do explain what each method does, but often in a rather opaque way. Where Elixir and Kotlin get thi

Go has a GC. Specifying the need for manual memory-management might be moving the goal-posts a bit. Edit Phone auto-correct from memory management to measurement.
