While hardware may work, there are so many niceties people will have to learn to deal with. Plugging in an external monitor may or may not work. Audio may or may not switch like folks are used to. (Try telling someone to launch alsa mixer)

Is Deno trying to solve these problems (Linting, Formatting, Polyfilling and bundling)? I was under the impression that Deno was a node-like runtime using Rust bindings to libuv instead of C++.

Vertical Horizon's "Everything You Want" specifically spoke to me here because that was the EXACT era!!! I know I ripped that song using a connection of Perl scripts, then used LAME encoder in connection with some lyrics fetc

I recall being in a B. Dalton Bookstore in the mid-90's. I picked up a book that had "Linux" on the cover. In the cover it had a floppy disk or two. Something felt very wrong to me. You can't give away an entire operatio

I use when doing DSA/Algorithmic puzzle solving. I typically would use Java for such a thing. TS is pretty nice and when I don't need dependencies.... deno is a nice Typescript first language/runtime/env.

I did this exact think back in 2012 with a PhoneGap/Apache Cordova app. It had to use Xcode to run the app in the iOS Emulator. So I spun up a virtual machine on my Linux box. It worked extraordinarily well! In the case of the poster y

It was a very Sun-like thing to do. Sun dropped the 2. after their 2.6 release. Solaris 7 was the next release... then 8.

When I was doing F#, I loved both of these projects. I don't think we should always view ExpressJS/Sinatra (from Ruby) as "the standard", but there's also something to not having to do an hour of work before we can

Amazon as a company tends to side with the customer. Their whole mantra is that it's not worth chasing after x* amount of dollars. Now repeat offenses? No, you're not getting away with using their services for free. (You mention t

A few things come to mind. Rust has the potential to be fast... VERY fast. It also can be very safe. Pretty much everything in Rust utilizes the Result type (an Either Monad that causes Errors/Exceptions to become first-class citizens)

Well, keep in mind that the transmission vector of HIV and SARS COVID are completely different. If we had found in the 80's that HIV was transmissible by simply breathing the same air as those infected, we'd likely have seen a sim

I haven't read that one. I've always recommended my devs read The Little Schemer if they ever need something to read on a plane ride. I always recommend reading it while NOT in front of a computer.

Yeah, if they took the path of ARDI's Executor from the 90's, it IS possible to have a completely clean-room emulation (of Apple) without violating any intellectual property.

One solution I had been dying to implement is the Erlang style of letting a Kubernetes POD OOM, and just respawning it. If the app performs well right up until it runs out of memory, I see no reason to have a GC turned on at all. (obviously

That culture is so foreign to me. Each place I've left in the past 10 years, I'm pretty sure I could go back. I know enough folks or at least have been told by C-Suite that "the door is always open, just give me a call".

What's worse, that division is extremely profitable to some. So they spend their resources stoking that division. This only serves to drive the wedge deeper. Meanwhile, it's like the classic game of Three Card Monte. We are so bus
