I'm not the one you're asking but, I messed around with it a bit and it really left a bad taste in my mouth. There is just much hype behind it though, so I bought the book to really get a feel for it. I liked the book. I used it i

This is assuming the user is only taking the correct amount. Even completely clean/pure drugs, when taken in too high of a quantity, (the definition of "over dose") can be lethal. So it's not simply about tainting.

I remember several years ago reading about "junk DNA" or "useless DNA" in sequences. Even then, I was certain that it probably wasn't "junk", we were just yet to understand it. I wish we'd take that a

In this day and age, I really do not understand why one of the first steps when spinning up a new repo (for this type of app) is not leveraging a tool like dotenv, and then a config system that uses environment variables for things like db

I thought to myself, I think I'll stream some Codewars challenges on Twitch. I have a Shure mic, a Sony ZV-E10, and some speakers for listening to music. Surely Linux can handle all this and pipe the audio into OBS... Yes... it is poss

I've always wanted to look into these other books! (I even purchased The Reasoned Schemer - but failed to start reading it). Someday... probably when I retire.

For many years I recommended everyone on my team (that was interested in retooling their brain in a more functional way) read "The Little Schemer". My only caveat is that they read it without touching a computer. Like... read it o

1. You're wrong. You have no idea the value I place on both my direct reports and other engineers at my current and previous companies. 2. I should have looked at your comment history before my first response. I really would like to as

It's not my designation to give. An "engineer" actually needs rigorous certifications, backed by a certain education.

I definitely walk a fine line of wanting people to know how much I value them and how valuable they are to the business as a whole. But, the harsh truth is, every single one of us is replaceable. I've just seen that play out too many t

One need look no further than the O'reilly book on Microservices. First chapter I believe. We call ourselves "engineers" but the truth is, real engineers have real consequences when their designs fail. (buildings fall, bridge

Nowhere do I assert that people do not have the desire to accomplish things. Perhaps you're misreading my statement about "believing the building will fall down without us" incorrectly?

I'm still on the fence. As an engineering manager, I tend to attach faces to those "jobs". So seeing cuts, I imagine a ton of people that had to go home and tell their friends/family/etc that they no longer had a jo

This reminds me of when I consulted with a company that wanted to use Rails as their backend. Rails made it incredibly easy to get database results on a web page. Too easy. They spent the next several months certain that they could "wi

It's more common than you'd think. Consider the case of an app that consumes a component library. One is building a component in one project, and then consuming it in another project. `npm link` makes this trivial. While I totally

But as often is the case with Apple releases, you DO indeed have to sacrifice things. Apple will often use marketing to tell people they don't need features that are standard on other platforms (copy/paste, MMS on the iPhone, more

I came in around 1998, so 6 years shy of the 30 year mark. I still got to play with a lot of stuff from that era though. Lots of Novell Netware installs. NE2000 NICs with BNC (and 50 Ohm terminators) proliferated. I became familiar with Btr
