Not sure if this is meant to be a sarcastic reply that imitates the usual negativity of HN, due to the subject of the article, or a legit reply.

It is one thing to have the government get access to software, and quite another to have truly open source software. Does the entire Chinese population have access to the source? I seriously doubt it.

I would have to add to what you've said, that turnover in recruiting agencies seems to be huge, if my LinkedIn feed is any indicator. They seem to move between jobs as much as many contract developers. And of course, some still will ex

You may have more against Quebec than the average Quebecer has with the ROC. The population here isn't as homogeneous as your broad strokes have painted it to be. I'd probably agree with you on a number of your criticisms of thing

Except these are companies choosing to shorten their work days. This isn't a top-down imposition by government. I suspect you are envisioning a 6-hour day, with government requiring overtime compensation beyond that. As for basic inc

There are plenty of people who watch TV in the UK without paying the license fee, to say nothing of the Internet. I'd bet that the percentage of non-license payers who use iPlayer is higher, due to cord-cutting.

This has been true for me in Canada. I've declined multiple full-time offers because my contract rate was far more attractive than the benefits that came with the full-time alternative.

They're also not socialist, in the sense that the parent comment was (I think) hinting at. There's plenty of capitalism at work in both Sweden and Norway.

Not to mention, I see less incentive now for Jetbrains to make the IntelliJ plugins on par with the standalone, language-specific IDEs.

PyCharm and IntelliJ both have "Community Editions" that are free, but missing a few features. They're very usable in that state. Something else to note is that Android Studio, which is similarly free to use, is based on Inte

I genuinely think it is useful to have articles like this on HN. We do have our share of pedants, and many with comments that do nothing but correct someone's grammar or spelling. I suppose a debate can be had over how useful any of th
