Picking on one point: "Well, noticed how Android's own web browser is even worse in HTML5 than Mobile Safari" The stock Android browser fell behind in late 2010. If you follow PPK of quirksmode.org you know this (e.g., the following article

Android has had turn-by-turn navigation at least since 2010. Having a GPS is irrelevant if you've got an Android.

Sir, you need to apologize or delete your comment. It's wrong and misleading. And it's the top comment on the thread.

The Unity interface is incredibly cool. Love it, love it. Performance was a bit choppy when I had 4GB ram, and sometimes compiz would freeze my system. However, upgrading to 8GB RAM (costs about $50) totally fixed everything for me. Just up

Fred Brooks agrees. He broadly outlines a design system using gestures in The Design of Design. (I know that PHK already exceeded the quota for Fred Brooks references in a week; I guess, just get over it.)

Perhaps the gimmick is not intended for you. It's for people who always buy as cheaply as possible.

Right, a community of "haters" may be better than a community of "lovers." That goes against every fiber of my being, but the fact is, life's tough, and you're more likely to be right if you're negative. However, it does shock me how Hacker

Yes, fasting really isn't bad if you drink plenty of water. I fast and pray semi-regularly (I'm a Christian). It is rough at first but you get into the groove about half-way through the day. Fasting never hurt by ability to code. Fasting sh

This is one of my fears with the complexity explosion called HTML5 / CSS3. We are bequeathing the future a world where building new browsers is approximately an impossibility. The Web is so much. Now all devices can consume the same files w

One myth I want to debunk: Copernicus's theory did NOT do away with epicycles. Search on Google for "copernicus epicycle" and the first article demonstrates my point. The one who did away with epicycles was Kepler. Copernicus believed orbit

Yes, iOS caught up with Android in many respects at the last WWDC, and Android is catching up with iOS on the responsiveness front. That's fine, on both counts. It means that Android and iOS are competitive. It also means I don't have to sw

Dynamic languages are not ideal for huge code bases. But huge code bases are not ideal, period. Dynamic languages grant huge power to small programs. Greater power through less code is surely the future.

Same here. Editors are vastly more complex than necessary. I want an editor like google.com. It's simple "sentence" model totally wins. Of course, creation instead of consumption requires additional abstractions. Three dimensions build an e

Why alienate such a large segment of users after pouring so much money into their technology? The web is getting weirder. If a company invests in multiple markets, they should be prepared to do well in some markets and badly in others. Bing

The factor you cite of 2-3x more profitable is enormous. Most of the "Tell HN" posts I have seen had a factor of about 30-40% more.
