I agree that it lies more in how you express yourself than in the instrument itself. Indeed, the more you must think about the instrument, the worse it fulfills its purpose. But you miss how beautiful and fluid pencil and paper really are!

Problem easily solved. Build your apps for Android first. You can make almost as much money on Android, and you can be secure knowing they won't pull this kind of garbage on you. Free markets are great.

Yes, you can choose from multiple options. Android, Meego, Boot2Gecko (soon). Windows Mobile, Blackberry, iOS, Bada, etc. So: some people choose Apple for its advantages, and others choose Android for its advantages. As a matter of fact, op

This is why I learned Vim and why I find its theory of interaction superior to other text editors. Maybe a century down the road we will have vim-customized keyboards. Tangible keyboards will always have a place, I think, because they provi

Definitely agree. Some of the comments are positively ludicrous. This post would have hundreds of points if it were Kickstarter or a company that "hackers" like.

Don't get scared. Get Android. Don't do business with a company designed to take advantage of you. Problem solved.

I keep a couple of gift cards in my wallet and hand them out if someone's in trouble. I tell them there's money on it but not how much. Obviously, someone could still sell the gift card, but the buyer will have to take him at his word.

I love TTW. I've read most of it now. It's detailed, for example the URL parsing discussion. However, Zalewski pulls the details into a big picture narrative. It immensely benefited me -- a web developer familiar with the craft but lacking

I know, maybe it's not very useful. But isn't it fascinating? Some information moved from the link node into the state of the program processing it. This halves the link redundancy of a doubly linked list. Suddenly a doubly linked list has

Brendan Eich does not oppose ASI. Error correction simply means "add a semicolon if it's necessary."

I loved the new design. Much less clutter. A service I use every waking moment need not label everything. I like the direction of Google's design efforts. The Google+ design will continue to evolve, I'm sure (it is not quite there yet).

Yes, many webapps do not take into account that modern screens are quite large enough to display multiple windows comfortably.

People miss this. Technology makes us more human, not less. Technology creates new verbs ("email" me; "like" me, "follow" me). But we embrace only language that makes us more human, not less. People think that technology colonizes us. On th

Another issue: if you ever use Ctrl-C in a macro, and then try to rerun it, the macro ends on Ctrl-C. I use ^[ to end insert mode. This only happens when you use macros like I do. I took a look at my registers and here's a random one I did

Yes. Right now we are looking at installing an affiliate plugin on a Magento site with Varnish caching. Instead of inventing a new Magento/Varnish plugin, we are planning to use a javascript-driven solution.

An interesting technique I found: Create a "quiz" every day. For every article, formulate a question answered by the article that is actually important. Later on, you can go back to your quiz and review your questions. However, the most int

Even if you won't use Perl6 (which you probably won't, in the near future), you will find the developments in notation quite stimulating. Hyper-operators and the incredibly detailed attention to array references blew my mind away. Especiall

1. Browser computes hash for all JS files loaded, and tallies number of uses. 2. JS files that get a certain number of uses get marked for compilation. 3. On browser startup, the marked files are recompiled into the binary. 4. The modules a

Very interesting. I have tried combining Git and Dropbox. That eliminates the need to provision a git server and allows you to mesh with people having less experience with Git.

Node supports no language extensions that V8 doesn't. Ryan Dahl says: "Node does not modify the JavaScript runtime. This is for the ECMA committee and V8 to decide. If they add coroutines (which they won't) then we will include it. If they
