Side question: why don't we actually encourage and fund research into developing solid, reliable, and standardized tests for carcinogenicity? Everybody with at least some above basic knowledge of molec bio realizes that things like t

Do anyone except Elementary OS users use Pantheon? Seem extremely niche. There's other DEs missing too, like Budgie, XMonad etc., but nobody's complaining because the focus is on the most popular ones. Anyway, I really hope someth

There's also the folks who end up having to use Ubuntu LTS (16.x) for various reasons, and if they ever try KDE on it will be doomed to inevitably hate it... Hope the story doesn't repeat with their next LTS version. (Maybe the KD

TL;DR: A program needs either (a) features + good UX/I or (b) rock-solid stability + amazing performance characteristics to compensate for anything else lacking. Gimp has neither, it's some kind of "middle ground" thingy

Exactly! Most examples of horrible UI/X I can think of in Linux land are from the Gtk/Gnome camp. Qt seems to have much better UX/I sense, and some successful apps like Blender just use their own separate thing.

Yeah, but this is a place where consistency bites your ass (in the absence of types): when you're iterating over characters in a string you usually do something very very different then when you're iterating over a random list.

It's on par, as long as you don't do too many refactors on nasty codebases. Now, PyCharm chokes on those nasty refactors too, guessing the right stuff only 70% the stuff in a way that sometimes feels purely random, but at least it
