Don’t miss the code package linked in the paper: https://zenodo.org/record/7004898 I always felt like the Python type system was underpowered compared to e.g. TypeScript (not necessarily a bad thing), but I guess it’s

This would be more useful if it would provide a hint about where the location is. Usually, that's what you need to determine which format is more reasonable. Yes, you can go check it on a map, but it'd be faster to see it on the s

The simple answer is that renaming a variable (or function parameter) is a semantic change - even if it doesn’t, say, change the compiled code, it affects how a human would read and understand the code. Plus, in many languages, function par

I’ve heard the lower stats, but I’m not sure I agree. I’m learning Mandarin and have gone through the entire HSK6 character list - and I’m still having to look up lots of characters when I read the newspaper, novels, etc. 10,000 might be a

Spoken Mandarin would be a great basis for a logical world language. Although it shares roughly zero words in common with English or other European languages (aside from the occasional loan word, like coffee or sofa), the language itself

Right now Apple is facing quite a lot of regulation in various places to open up their platform: open up app loading, open up repairs, etc. It’s hard not to imagine this being yet another salvo in forcing Apple to open up their messaging pl

These are not summary judgments, they are default judgments. Alex Jones repeatedly failed to comply with court orders to produce evidence, which resulted in him being in default of the court. IANAL, but FRCP rule 37(b)(2)(A)(vi) very clearl

It’s not an array element :) The printf statement is part of the length expression, i.e. it’s setting the length of the array to the result of the printf call. So it is indeed a “value”. This isn’t much different from writing something like

Nit: the char array doesn’t get dereferenced at all. The entire computation happens as a side effect of computing the length of the array. This is more of a case where there’s an unexpected expression context that can be abused for fun.

This isn’t a CAPTCHA. A CAPTCHA should be something that can tell a human user apart from a non-human user with a high degree of accuracy, such that it should be hard for a bot to pass even a single instance. As noted elsewhere in the threa

I guess my concern is with “silent” memory corruption, e.g. someone putting in a “bzero(state, …)” by accident and winding up with deterministic randomness. Sure, they could also just as well do a “bzero(randombuf, …)” before using it but t

I guess my biggest concern here is the notion that vDSO is going to manage the state in user space, if I understand correctly. That seems like a big footgun. If I call the getrandom system call, and it succeeds, I am (pretty much) guarantee

I wouldn’t be surprised if Google has channel for “pre-reviews” - some mechanism by which they would run proposed apps by Apple so they could avoid wasting developer time on apps that have no chance of being approved.
