That tweet, omg! Marc Andreessen got hit so hard because of it that he apologized on his Twitter account and said he won't participate on any political discussion about India again. I like his work, but the particular tweet was grotesq

This is not true. Were you in India when FB launched Free Basics? Lot of journalists covered it. AIB channel's video, for instance, actually made it simple for non-tech people to understand. Major TV channels covered it critically.

I may also point to a subtle subconscious factor that might be helping Google. Google posted the free WiFi on Railway stations. Indian Railways is huge and celebrated as a backbone to the countries transportation. On the other hand FB'

I stay in New Delhi and visit Bangalore often. Don't remember seeing Sundar Pichai on a single public Billboard or Ad. Go on with your fantasy stories!

I don't underestimate Amazon at all! Gave it a lot of credit for strategy, vendor management and logistics along with the technology.

Ah ok, that makes sense. A weakness then that they had to focus on making the merger work and keeping the investors happy, when there were more important things to do.

Too much negative commentary. Flipkart also did something interesting that fueled their early growth - they offered 'Cash on Delivery' model, cause many people in India don't use Credit/Debit cards for shopping! I never

Wow, thanks for posting this and to the investigative journalist. Now I know whom to blame for all the heartburn that I (and family) had from the continuously fusing bulbs.

That's a very convenient excuse: "I thought I was right". Doesn't make a scam any less so. My bigger grudge with Theranos' founder and the likes is their hoax seriously hurts the startup industry culture. Some peopl

As a developer in my thirties, I see this more as flexibility and exposure to adopt new technology, instead of sticking with old tech stacks. It's clear that the earlier contractors didn't know enough about user-centered design, r

Time spent at the airport can be more productive though - catch up a few emails/tasks, walk around, shop etc. It's the long sitting flight hours, with constant interruptions that are very irritating.

Good read! DW has been the go-to resource whenever I had to decide on a new OS install. The website/favicon/logo et al. have become pretty dated though. It's still on HTML4. What's a general opinion on updating the site

Yeah, Wave created quite a buzz, at least within developers/early-adopters. It was complicated and heavy though. I didn't get fond of its features, for the few weeks that it existed.

This is cool. But IMHO the point of the article is about Google losing its first-mover advantage in chat apps due to wrong branding and prediction for GChat, not interoperability.

Gchat was (and is) wonderful -- minimal and elegant. I never understood why Google was so hell bent upon trying to move the users from Gchat to Hangout. They would have enough data to know the number of times users clicked 'no' to

You're right, but I know of a few startup teams that chose Linode, Rackspace etc. at start to account for future 'scalability' concerns. Well the number of users never came and they spent a lot of time just configuring stuff.
