Agreed. I've only seen it once but I recall feeling "what's the big deal" at the end. However the interview made me re-think this a bit. That the interviewer mistook the number of extras by a large margin speaks to the c

History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps by Peter Adamson. Told chronologically for the layperson, with consistent tone and running jokes about Buster Keaton. An ambitious project, valuable resource, relaxing, illuminatung, and logical.

old.reddit.com still works well for me (as well as it ever did) on mobile. The login is (intentionally?) broken, so I use i.reddit.com to login.

I love LuaKit. Zero chrome/bezel on the browser windows - turn off window decoration and the web content is just a (fully) resizeable rect in your desktop layout. The vim-style keyboard controls are a plus (for me, anyway).

The author's stance is that because it was a volunteer effort, he bears no responsibility for transferring ownership to an unknown third party who wants to commandeer the code used by millions of people. I believe this is false. He als

Consider that Fuller intentionally obfuscates text, inventing words and constructing labyrinthine sentence structures, to underscore his philosophy that an entirely new way if thinking is required. The act of deciphering meaning from his wo

Is there such a thing as "interactive nonfiction"? Because if not, there should be. Design educational websites this way and watch children learn.

Every time I hear about the Librem 5, I get excited about the idea that I could run Debian, or Arch, or another open source OS on a phone. But I can find scant details about how this would be implemented.

Naive question: Would a reasonable way to avoid this scenario be, to increment a secondary counter when the primary counter reaches max-1, then reset the primary counter to zero?

Sounds like the good kind of problem! Let me chime in and say thank you for implementing and sharing this.

I don't interpret it as being "blinded by perspective", though. I think Thompson was (in a lighthearted curmudgeonly way) describing the virtue of having the primary buffer of your document in your head. I certainly don'

I've been using Upwork for side gigs since it was Odesk. The tracking system (which has scarcely changed in 5+ years) has always seemed fair and flexible to me. the tracker works well cross platform.. I can move from OSX to Win10 to Ub

I was reading "Physics and Beyond" by Werner Heisenberg this weekend, and he mentioned reservations about Plato, specifically, speculation about the form and behavior of constituent particles of matter as described in the Timaeus.

One of the most frustrating parts of Win10 is the update scheduling. You can request that an update be delayed, but the OS does not always honor the request as specified (settings - update & security - windows update - active hours). In

This is not my area of experience, but is it feasible to capture all raw tracking data from the client devices and then just pass it on to the API?

This is gorgeous. For me it recalls Fuller's Dymaxion map. He would be cheering if he had this in his web browser.

May I suggest Robert Frost? He's fanatical about rigorously adhering to meter, cunningly so.. when you go back and count the iambs it's striking how few deviate. The way he encodes his lyricism is subtle and soothing, like a preci

Second this — I like Compiz but the ccsm & gnome-tweak-tools tandem/overlapping configuration is a nightmare. Preferences must be imported/exported via GUI and they (frequently!) import improperly. Ccsm itself is a maze of dia

There's a more subtle point in the article about how digital media have trained us to be less tolerant of delays, more impatient for new information. How often have you gone to a website on a whim, but clicked "back" after wa
